INDIGO RACER: SUZUKI GS750 BY CROWS PERFORMANCE

Post by Skub »

This ticks a fair few boxes of what I dislike. Some of the Japanese custom boyos definitely see things....differently

I quite like the retro vice on the workbench

"Especially the lies."

I’d say that this sort of custom is probably manga-influenced and in that light it’s probably a pretty good job. I saw one recently which was more obvious - a Honda msx125 which had been turned into a replica of a fifties/sixtiesbucket-fairing guzzi which had been the bike of a character in manga. It was very well done and actually quite cool.

A shaft drive 'racer' with the steering head angle of a chopper. And 80's wheels, brakes and forks.

A cafe racer in some weird alternative Japanese universe, perhaps. But not this one.

The 750GL was a jap market only shaft drive custom. It's difficult to make a bike like that any worse but they've had a bloody good go.

All these are a waste of time. Putting shitty engines in a posh frock. Why not base summat around a new capable engine ?

Cost? New engines cost new money. If you start with something that costs fourpence you can afford to spend a bit on the customisation. Anyway, with many of them it would be a waste of a good engine.

Oh...and if you've got a good engine you may as well put it in an equally good frame etc...oh...hang on...you may as well buy a new bike.

In fairness, the engine is the best bit of that. Not saying much admittedly, but Suzuki air-cooled fours have always been strong. A lot of 80s Jap motors are still viable propositions.

The rest of the bike, not so much.

They did actually manage to polish turds on an episode of Mythbusters. They got officially 'high gloss' on a paint measure thing.

I still don't like this bike mind.

Well, they know how to bend a pipe at least. Usually there are 957 welded sections in each pipe

A standard GS750 is a nice bike to ride, for a 1976 bike, that abortion will be worse than the bike it's based on.

I feel a bit sorry for it.
The engines probably ok, GSs were ok, a shaft drive is ok.

But what they've done to it is pretty horrible.
Someone spent a lot of time and money on that.
