Cheers. I'ts been a long 10 year haul and 3 house moves to get here, but I've now a pretty decent workshop.

The first garage had no power and was detached from the house. I hoarded stuff in there knowing that at some point I'd be able move and have a better works space. However, it was a royal PIA having to fire up a generator, drag bikes out the way etc.

Image

Then we moved again and had a garage attached to the house, but we took 1/4 of it to add a downstairs loo. This too became overcrowded and stuff started to get stored in the shed.

Image

This is the 3rd (and final) house move for us. I've got an outbuilding with a 30A electric supply, ethernet connectivity back to the house, heating, security camera and when I've ripped up the old decking and taken out a hot tub I'll have an outdoor area to build a shelter for jetwashing mountain bikes etc. and space for another shed for storing non-valuable stuff.

Having only been in our "new" house for less than 2 months and currently in lock down, something of a work in progress:

Note the tasteful carpet (left by the previous occupant which was an Austin 7) and the pile of sawdust as I'm largely limited to woodwork ATM.

The old 10 way extension lead trick. Love it. The plug top can double up as an extra heater when it gets a bit chilly.

All low powered stuff and not all on at the same time....

Plus all very well (too well) protected by MCBs.

Workbench just delivered so will spend today installing it.

Re: Show us your workshop...

So I worked a couple of short weeks the last month to use up some holiday. Spent 2 days sorting out the workshop as it had become not so much cluttered, but there was stuff stored in there the could be better located elsewhere.

I moved the road and mountain bike into the summer house where the kids bikes live. Took the 4 drawer filing cabinet out and moved that there too, it's now got all the cycling kit in it - helmets, clothing, spares, tools etc.

I moved the three drawer cabinet to the shed and it now holds all stock and spare parts.

With my office closing, I'm able to liberate anything there that is deemed to be going in the skip. I've not got another workbench with drawer so I've got two separate stations to work at - one for clean stuff and one for drilling/filing/grinding etc. Also got a metal locker to store the welding consumable in. Stuck up another large strip of sockets.

With the extra space I've managed to get the parts washer into a permanent location and get a screen mounted for a better PC - Corei5, SSD and 16GB RAM. The old laptop I had in there was well past it's sell by date. I can now watch youtube videos, stream music through the amp and speakers etc.

Sorted through nuts, bolts and other fittings and got them in storage bins. The same with all glues, tapes, adhesives, cable ties and zip-seal bags.

Finally I fixed a couple of bits of cladding that were warped and removed an entire wheelie bin's worth of tree debris and bird shit from the roof.

So there is now space to work comfortably in two locations, get the bikes in and out individually and I have more floorspace than I did before.

Next project is the outside area. Once the hotub and decking have gone I'm thinking of a covered workspace with a bench and power.

Another nice item added today courtesy of work. Our electronics engineer retired after 30 years with us. Gave me his power supply which is a massive upgrade on my old one. I might have a shuffle about and move the electrical and electronic tools from the roller cabinet over to this bench.
