Mrs weeksy went in London. "Absolutely fucking rubbish" was her description, despite being quite into art and galleries etc.

I've heard many rave reviews. Bugger.

Better ask her before I book the flights.

We enjoyed it (although the 'walk through the field of sunflowers' was a waste of 2 minutes).

Flights cheap? We did train tickets, I wouldn't pay a fortune though.

I thought it was really good, mind you my knowledge of Vincent Van Gogh wasn't that good so there was the educational angle to it.
For example.
I thought he was in his late 50's when he shot himself, he was 37.
I didn't know how bad a shot he was, it took him 2 days to die after he pulled the trigger!
I thought he just had a brother, Theo. he had 3 sisters as well.
etc

I suppose it depends on what you expect from these things. They had 3D printed canvasses so they had the same texture as the originals, I was really impressed by that....

Probably like most, I'd only really been aware of his 'famous' stuff. But they included several of the portraits he'd done, very different style of work.

Same really, I can't fault anywhere that you come out of wiser than when you went in.
Even if you're not really into it then you've learned something and it might actually turn you onto something.

I've never really got "art" like that. I don't know why / who decides "ohh he/she is so good, lets value all their work in millions" Van Gogh's sunflowers is nothing more than an average painting of some flowers that he knocked up to decorate a room that his friend was coming to stay in. There are much better artists alive today that paint/ draw much better pictures but they will never be famous or wealthy ??!!!

My winter boss has some reasonably expensive (£10,000+) paintings. When guests see them he likes /has to point out "It's by Walker" and then they pretend to be impressed because they want to seem clever.

It's the sort of thing I'd find interesting on a BBC4 documentary, I'd not be happy investing a fair amount of time and money for what essentially looks like a load of tat.

You only need one thing to be a successful artist and it isn't talent.

My next door neighbour is an artist. (Ismet Doğan) I have no idea if he has real talent.

Oh, all you need is a buyer.

A friend is an ex- opera singer. Sang at Covent Garden with some geezer called Plácido Domingo.

But when young she was told "you're very good, but you'll never be a star" or words to that effect, that she didn't have the charisma.

That depends how much money and time you have spare, and how you want to spend it.

If I was weighing up the use of my time then I've spent considerably more time on here talking bollocks.

AFAIK van Gogh was basically a nobody in his own lifetime too, before his untimely death.

So there's another route you could take....

Do you mean that I should recommend death to achieve fame?

Sadly, these days she would trade missing out on fame for not having rapidly progressing PCA Alzheimer's :(

Untimely death is always a good route to stardom.
