Using 'race' brake pads on the road

Post by mangocrazy »

I'm pretty sure I know the correct answer to this, but I'll ask the question anyway...

I have 2 sets of Ferodo FRP 408CP front pads. These are the fitment for loads of '90s Italian bikes using the single pin Goldline Brembo calipers - used on Ducati 851/888/916/Monster etc. etc. The pads themselves carry the markings 'CP901 Ferodo 0195'. The only problem is that the packaging is plastered with 'For racing use only' and 'C.P. Racing'.

So - it'll be perfectly fine and dandy to use them on a bike which will never see any track action, with no insurance implications, then?

Only pads I've ever used on track that were shocking on road were carbon ceramic ones - just couldn't get enough heat in them. All others have been Ok as long as it's not wet.....

Stick them in and if they work the way you like, that's a result.

I've tried several brands of pad to get a rear brake the way I want it,but I think it may be a master cylinder ratio/caliper imbalance, which is more of a bollix.

It's not a big deal, as the pads I have currently still have plenty of meat on them (Performance Friction PFC95 compound), but I was rifling through a spares box today and found two brand new packs of the Ferodo pads and it would be a shame to waste them.

My concern is they would be fitted to my 350LC, which is a comparatively light bike and may not get them up to temperature properly. I guess the only way is to suck it and see...

I always used EBC when racing. Awesome stopping power.
