Getting your leg over
I want to fit a grab rail to my Suzuki, but being a short arse my leg is already catching on the seat as I get my leg over, how do people with top boxes mount and dismount?

I had the foresight to not grow up a short arse. It was one of my better decisions.

Re: Getting your leg over
Have you tried grabbing your leg with your hand and pulling it back as much as is comfortable before swing your leg over? That way you can pull your foot away from the topbox/rack/whatever as your leg goes over the seat.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 10:51 am I want to fit a grab rail to my Suzuki, but being a short arse my leg is already catching on the seat as I get my leg over, how do people with top boxes mount and dismount?
I've found myself having to do that occasionally on the Rockster.

They don't match the bike and I'd have to adjust the gear lever.

Re: Getting your leg over
I just bend and lift the knee and lift right foot towards right buttock. Once the knee is about seat level the leg just unfolds over the bike sort if thing. A bit like getting off in reverse. It's a bit more graceful than hopping forward with the left foot stuck out like something from the Ministry of Silly Walks.
Edit: right leg not left!

Re: Getting your leg over
I'm a short arse. When necessary (ie with panniers and top box on, or if I am feeling lazy) I carry out the following drill.
Stop and apply front brake firmly
Put side stand down and lean bike onto it.
Stand on left peg and lift right leg over the seat
Step off.
Mounting is the reverse.
Alternatively, for flash gits.
Slow to a fast walking pace in neutral
Stand on left peg
Lift right leg over seat
Brake with front brake gently to a slow walking pace
Step off and stop
Lower side stand and walk away

Arrive at Reigate Hill car park. Ride up grassy bank while doing a Frankie Dettori dismount, lean bike against tree. Turn and say 'Hi guys'. All in one seamless process. (Git! ).

Re: Getting your leg over
With full luggage I had to get on the BB foot first!! Not ideal but it worked. Or the pull/fold leg described by Rockburner.
I did find that in general if I leant forward far enough I could get my leg over a small tailpack, but did often have to go foot first

Re: Getting your leg over
IF there's luggage on the pillion seat it's either karate-kicking (not literally) the right foot over the seat or left foot on the peg to get some extra height.

Splitting your box doesn't sound ideal.Trinity765 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 1:32 pm I used to be a gymnast so round off, back flip, half pike with box split.

Maybe you could transfer some knowledge from standing up inside vans or sitting in a convertible without getting wind in your eyes.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 7:00 pm I'd like to help... but not being a midget means I have no relatable experience.
