Motorcycle tyres : 3.8 -4mm of tread left
I am off to the Manx GP in 3 weeks time.
250 miles to Liverpool ( and then back). Plus riding around the Island. So say another 500 miles max.
The tyre to me is half worn - if I was doing the trip I would keep it on there for a while.
It is also 6 years old.
I am going to get a new one fitted before I go - am I being over cautious - or sensible decision?_

The age probably makes it a sensible decision, has it been sat on them for long periods without moving?

IMHO old tyres are fine as long as they're not cracked.
Put a few heat cycles through them and they soon come back to life.

Depends what tyre it is - supersport, sport-touring, adventure, touring...? Personally I'd say you'd be fine with it as it is. 6 years old is not an issue unless it's been left exposed to UV (i.e. outside) for long periods and/or been exposed to wide temperature variations.
But if you feel unsure, get new tyres fitted. Peace of mind is priceless.

And peace of mind includes knowing you’re on new rubber before a potential tyre shortage.

Such an authoritative article he seems to have misspelled his own name!Hot_Air wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 7:13 pmAnd peace of mind includes knowing you’re on new rubber before a potential tyre shortage.
