Your Desert Island Discs selection.

Post by mangocrazy »

You know the score - eight records to drive you mad on a desert island. Plus a book and a Luxury.

Have at it.

The spirit of the original would say singles only. But if anyone wants to add a second list of 8 albums, I really can't stop them...

I couldn't decide anyway  Ignoring classical (Bach and Philip Glass...if you can listen to a PG work all the way through and not get bored you can probably listen to it for a few years  ) it would probably be something by:

Joni Mitchell (probably Blue)
Yello
Stone Roses
Jan Garbarek
Laurie Anderson (probably Strange Angels)
Shriekback
Little Feat
Floyd (probably Meddle)

Book: Complete Book of 'Listener' crosswords (and Chambers dictionary)
Luxury: What the hell, may as well go down with a stupid grin, a goodly slab of best Lebanese and the makings. Or, some herbal tea bags - if there's no milk :(

In the radio show version, you're given a copy of the Bible and the Complete works of Shakespeare, so make another choice for your book...! :D

Limiting it to one track per artist (otherwise it would be 10 Dylan tracks). ;)

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Idiot Wind - Bob Dylan
Hotel California - The Eagles
Love Spreads - Stone Roses
Ring Ring - Leo Kottke
Dying Crapshooters Blues - Blind Willie McTell
Let Her Cry - Hootie and the Blowfish
Crossroads - Cream

Book: Not sure, probably something by Sir Pterry.

Luxury: A brewery. ;)

Its impossible, if you were on Desert island discs you would get about 3 month notice to formulate your list.
Mine change every day but tonight, my singles would be, for the next ten mins anyway:

Wild horses - Stones
Three Little birds -
Connected - Stereo MCs
Just like Candy - Elvis Costello
Wish you were here - Floyd
Brown eyed girl -Van Morrison
This Charming Man - Smiths
Pride & joy - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Down to the Doctors - Dr Feelgood.

And that has already changed with at least another 100 singles I'd need. So no, a Desert Island won't work for me on singles music to keep me sane.

Definite choon.

(I think I spent a whole week commuting by car from Surrey to Peterborough with just Blood on the Tracks on repeat play....and I'm not that big a Dylan fan but the whole LP is  ).

I'm sure that's the one my mate nailed in the early 90's, his brother owned a trendy pub and I'd seen them together in there, off their tits on Bolivians finest marching power. On the Monday at work he had a story to tell.

Personally I'd rather have someone more practical to do all my work for me whilst I sit back and relax, maybe a ladyboy and the bumming hat
You could have Claire but she'd eat all the pies then have to crash diet, maybe the best answer is the whole of Steps as a luxury, maybe the question I should be asking myself is how come I know all their names.
