Yup that's where my TomTom likes to take me too, not too bad on the 690 but a bit of a chore on the GSXweeksy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 06, 2022 10:49 am Out on the kind of lanes that @Tricky sat nav of doom takes you on

Re: New bike day. 690SMC-R.
Life been getting in the way along with the weather being bloody hot.
At times I find fault with it, a couple of times it gets a bit loose on the front end at 80ish, it's obviously the bars, guards, mudguard, height etc so it's not a biggy, but there's clearly a bit of a stability issue lol.
However nothing that's a problem as such.
I stuck it into Street (1) mode today which like putting the mt09/xsr into std mode, makes the fuelling that bit nicer. Mode 2 is more responsive, but not always in a good way.
I got 10.8 litres in the tank today at 136 miles, whatever that equates to.
But yeah I'm still a happy bunny matey. I've now stuck 400 miles on it, but the longest ride isn't anywhere near what many of you do. 40 miles is a day out for me.

If a Super Moto is stable at over 80 mph, it isn't a Super Moto.

Chris at Bike World got a couple of podiums on a bog stock Gas Gas seemed to really like it. It's a good channel as well if you don't watch it.

It's certainly made me want to go. And also made me a bit annoyed that I missed the event last weekend...

My mate raced at Aberdare last year, he said he'll never go again because it was so poorly organised.

Re: New bike day. 690SMC-R.
When I had my Husky I rarely went over 80, but I was riding like a twat down some fairly narrow roads and had quite a lot of near misses with vehicles coming the other way. It was a fun bike but after 20 minutes on it I'd be sick of riding it because it was uncomfortable and required a lot of effort to ride fast, a TDR250 is more practical.
My Suzuki has a top speed of around 140mph, but I rarely go over 100 on it, I think I've finally learnt some self control at 55.

Re: New bike day. 690SMC-R.
This was my prime reason for jumping from a sportsbike to a naked. Big numbers are all too easy on a 10R and I needed to ride it like that to get a buzz. With the current bike I can still enjoy horsing it around, but the numbers are well down because it's too much like work hanging on in a gale force wind and quite often it's cool to discover just drifting along without being uncomfortable.Potter wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 6:01 amI think that's a benefit, I'd probably buy one just because it's rubbish over 80mph.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 9:01 pm If a Super Moto is stable at over 80 mph, it isn't a Super Moto.
I look back at when I had the superbikes of the day and every time I went out it was 140mph+ and on a few occasions there were incidents that relied on pure luck that I came back home alive, it makes me shiver now thinking about it, all those years since then I'd have been lying underground instead of raising my kids and doing what I've been doing.
80mph is enough to get you in trouble in the wrong places, but it must be less likely to kill you or put you in prison than 140mph+
I believe as a result,I am enjoying riding more than ever, but it took me until 65 before the penny dropped.

Re: New bike day. 690SMC-R.
The beauty of the 690 is you get all the fun but none of the being sick of it in 20 mins, well on the Duke at least. I'd rank the Duke as the most most comfortable bike I've ownedLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Sat Jul 23, 2022 8:40 am When I had my Husky I rarely went over 80, but I was riding like a twat down some fairly narrow roads and had quite a lot of near misses with vehicles coming the other way. Re: New bike day. 690SMC-R.
Out today reasonably early to miss most of the traffic and heat. But at 22+Deg it was far from cold that's for sure.
Was playing on roads I know, because, well, I never stray far from home, then 3 bikes came towards me and I thought "oooh should I turn and go after them..... Nah..... Yeah"
But sadly they didn't last long despite a 45s gap I was on them within a few minutes and being held up by them. But the roads were fun. I took the next turning the opposite direction to them and scooted on the back lanes again
Lots of enjoyment. Despite the fact I rarely get the bike out, I do really enjoy it when I do. Even still feeling a bit ropey from COVID.
