Riddle me this?
The price of Brent crude is down 4.5% for the month, how much has the price fallen at the pumps?
Iirc, oil went negative when the COVID hit hard, yet pretty sure the price at the pumps didn't plummet.
Perhaps Potter could give us an insight into cartels/oligopoly of the oil industry.
If I were someone in govt I'd be leaning on the oil companies, or would that affect the backhanders

Ah, but they can't drop this price yet as they've already paid for the fuel that's currently 'in the system' < that old chestnut.
Govt ain't going to do sod all, they're coining it in with the extra tax money, it'll go some way to lining their mates pockets somehow.

Re: Riddle me this?
Govt. did drop a bit of fuel duty a while back, 5p a litre iirc.
Didn't see it make much of an impact, it must be said. And whilst it's true that the petrol in the pump now was probably bought at higher price than crude can be bought now, does anybody really need to ask why the people flogging it aren't dropping the price straight away?

Dont pumps go higher than 1.99? Got a rip of bastard here who is always 4p higher than Tesco but the past two weeks they have both been 1.99 what i found odd. Last couple of days Tesco has been 1.97. Not a great deal in the tank but heading the right direction.

Re: Riddle me this?
They do go higher, Cluanie was charging £2.20 for diesel last time I went past, about a month ago.
I think it was £2.02 out here last time I filled up. I can't say I looked that closely, if I need fuel then I buy fuel.

Last time out on the bike Tesco was £1.97, one small independent was £1.85.

The Go station near me is at £179.9 that's the lowest I've seen for a while.
Funny how we get conditioned to think that's not bad.

Isn’t the oil price in dollars and the exchange range tanked when we got brexit done, small price to pay tbh.

Re: Riddle me this?
So you're happy that the price of everything we import (not just oil/petrol) has gone up significantly and has stoked inflation, all due to Brexit? And aside from this mythical thing known as sovereignty (that we mostly had anyway), what is there on the other side of the financial ledger that we've benefitted from?

Nope I voted remain, the downsides to Brexit were far too many and obvious but a lot of those that could least afford them voted for it anyway, turkeys christmas etc etcmangocrazy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 1:43 pmSo you're happy that the price of everything we import (not just oil/petrol) has gone up significantly and has stoked inflation, all due to Brexit? Re: Riddle me this?
I'm a staunch remainer, but prices have gone up across Europe, it's nothing to do with Brexit. With respect to fuel, I've driven in Spain, France, the UK and Ireland this year, fuel is expensive everywhere.
Food prices have risen too. There was a noticeable difference between Spain and France. France used to be cheap, now it's UK prices. Ireland is always more expensive than the UK, Spain is still relatively cheap in comparison.

Re: Riddle me this?
Wasn't gloating. Just showing that prices aren't silly everywhere.
So maybe his argument was flawed.
Have a cool one
