Pogačar did something special on Cote de la Croix – Mende. 7,36 w/kg for 9:05 min. Only 7 seconds from Pantani’s record. The fastest time on Mende since 1995. Pantani, Riis and Indurain are the only ones with a faster time.

Jonas Vingegaard did his by far best short effort on Cote de la Croix Neuve – Mende. 7.25 w/kg for 9:05. 0.11 w/kg less than Pogačar because of drafting. Jonas probably could have pushed more w/kg, which is scary to think.

The amount of work they can do is just mind blowing. We take it for granted just how unique say a 100m sprinter is but I think these top GT riders are some of the fittest humans ever to exist.

That’s the great thing about bikes- because there’s no impact on your joints, the pros can dose themselves with a much exercise as it’s humanly possible to adapt and recover from!!

Of course power meters/turbo’s mean you can quantify just how fit that is too

So to do 7.36w/kg for 9 minutes would take me 698w
A quick glance at my stats shows that:

I can do 698w for 36 seconds (ignoring the rest of the Tour de France racing they’d already done to get there).

Or

I can do 386w for 9m05

Just what they need, 3 days in the Pyrenees! I wonder what conditions would have to be like for them to shorten a day's route? I vaguely remember they did before but I think that was because of snow or floods.

He's a crazy lad that one.... day after day and still at the pointy end despite working tirelessly for the team for so so many hours.

Obviously in some ways yesterday wasn't quite the battle we've seen as other days... but not every day can be that.

Obviously in some ways yesterday wasn't quite the battle we've seen as other days... but not every day can be that.

There are days that you just have to survive I guess and it did take out 2 key riders from the yellow jersey team. Haven't seen team displays dominating as much as in previous years though, other than in trying to dictate what the peleton do regarding breakaways.

The sprinters amaze me too (again it's not been quite a 'sprinty' as previous years so far). All the attention goes on the last 500m but they - and their lead out train, if they've got one - have had to ride the day just like everyone else and still end up at the front of it all.

Hilly one today... I expect to see Thomas lose time as he's shown whilst he's the best of the rest, he's not quite there with the top 2.... I think they'll shell him by about a minute... but he'll also pull him on the others around him i think.

I dunno, it must be getting to be time where Wout has to think more about the Yellow win for the team rather than his own green/sprint.... Unless Ving tells him it's all under control and good.

He's looking amazing, but as we know, all it takes is 1 wrong day and POP* they're then gone and out the back, doesn't always seem to be a reason... but currently he seems to have it well under control.

I think Pog keeps testing him just to see how fast he recovers - if he looks OK then Pog just backs off. Sepp Kuss on the last climb yesterday was a very useful ally for GoGo - can JV always have someone at the ready ?

Well that's it potentially for Pog ? Whilst tomorrow is just as hilly.... i don't think he's got it.

Well, that was a pretty brutal day. Good call on them putting time on Thomas. Hills again tomorrow but if it's like today, as I said up there ^^ the TT could be the ultimate decider. Didn't Pog dish Roglic on the final TT?
