Yamaha Tracer 900
Yamaha Tracer 900
My trusty GS1200 will be up for sale soon & as a replacement for long trips the Tracer 900 has caught my eye.
@weeksy let me have a ride on his XSR 900 a while back so I know the engine is a stonker, what I really need to know is how comfortable the Tracer is on a long trip? The seat in particular looks like an instrument of torture compared to the sofa on the GS.
If anyone has toured on one what did your botty dyno tell you?
Just for info my budget is around £7k so its the original model I'm looking at not the current one.

I had the MY 18 gen 2. Great all rounder. Sitting position is very friendly with most of your weight on your arse. Needs a small screen to eliminate noise and buffeting. Comes with centre stand. Good strapping points. Doesn't use any oil, engine rock solid.
In my personal experience, I've never found a bike where my arse doesn't ache after about 200 miles. Think it's an arse issue.
Get it done.
Ps... think the 18s > also came in GT version with adjustable suspension, better dash and cruise, I think. If it solo stuff, don't rule out the 650 Versys.

I did 5000 km round NZ in 2019 on a brand-new one, courtesy of Yamaha NZ and the NZ Transport Agency
Everywhere in NZ takes 50% longer to get to, so did some seriously long days in the saddle two-up. I think the longest was nudging 11 hours.
I'm sure there are more luxurious bikes out there, but no complaints from me. SWMBO preferred the V-Strom Suzuki NZ loaned me the previous year (I think the peg position was a little more relaxed) but no complaints from me. More comfortable than either my XJ6 or the Hornet!

Stonking engine, comfortable and the GT version comes with luggage, cruise and adjustable suspension.
Dash is nicer as well.
Screen caused me buffeting at 6ft, but you can sort it out.

I had a 2016 one from new, did 13k miles on it both here and in Europe. Great all rounder - cracking engine. I put a Nitron rear shock on it for when the Mrs was on the back, as it had a remote preload adjuster. Front suspension was fine for me. No surging or throttle snatchiness for me on that bike ? Great riding position - almost like riding a big enduro bike ! Over 200 miles easy on a tank. Standard Yamaha screen is piss poor and the turbulence from it hits right on yer helmet (I'm 5' 10") replaced with an Ermax sport screen which was a massive improvement, as although it took the wind blast lower, it was far more comfortable. Heated grips are worth it ! Comfort I would say is as good as any other bike I've had, in that it's probably better to stop for a brew after about 100 miles or so. If I was out with mates we'd stop for a chat after an hour anyway. Anything else you need to know just ask ? Cheers
