You need more than one board for different weather and sea conditions. Check the forecast, take the wrong board and then explain why you can't surf that day. All the kudos of being a surfer dood, and no chance of being seen to be rubbish at it.

If you're going to be a social media sensation you'll need to start training a surf dog* to ride the board with you too.

Is it a Basque dog? That spelling looks a bit Basque-ish.

I've made an appointment for Friday which will include a hour or so's drive in the campervan to make sure he's OK with it. All being well, I'll be a dog owner by the weekend !
He is a local dog, apparently spent a lot of time tied to a radiator

Women on Facebook that are married mums and plain Janes, until they get divorced and then they're back on the market and they suddenly slim down and start to dress all sexy, going out all the time and being the life of the party. My mate has one, he said when they were married he couldn't get her off the couch and she spent most of the day in jogging bottoms, but now they're divorced she's hitting the gym, gone skinny and wears really short clingy dresses and has had her lips and face done - he said he only ended up leaving her because she was an absolute lazy cow that wouldn't do anything or go anywhere - now that's exactly what she's doing

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I went to sports day a couple of weeks ago at Baby D's school. They've got a nursery too, so Sports Day is everything from 3 year olds up to 11. The 3 and 4 year olds in particular are so sweet natured. Multiple times I saw kids stop mid race to run back and help their friend get up when they fell over
One kid in the sack race was really struggling to get in his sack, so he just decided to just bin the bag off jump the whole way as if he was in the sack instead.

A girl I know has been everywhere. She said the poorer the people, the more generous they are!Potter wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 9:51 am Kids are born naturally sharing and caring, it's western values that turn them into selfish/jealous people. I met people in the jungle with nothing but they'll share what they do have and teach you how to survive - right up until they become westernised, then they're all out for what they can get.
I once asked her out of the places she'd been where was the best, expecting Canada as I knew she loved it there. She threw me when said Vietnam! The Vietnamese don't know what a bad temper is apparently!?

There have been a few studies on this point. It seems to be a universal human trait.
The theory is, the poorer you are the more likely you are to need someone else's help. Therefore you naturally fall into a situation where you're always being helped by other people and you're helping others. Once you're rich (doesn't even need to be money rich, just "resource" rich) you don't need help from others and you fall into a pattern of not being helped or helping others.

I think coveting started quite a long time before the invention of massive TVs on credit.
You used to be able to covet Oxes! No-one does that any more.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
The other side of the coin can be seen in those who accumulate considerable financial wealth and never know when to stop and just enjoy the fruits of their labour. They have the collector mentality and the only pleasure is in the next lucrative deal. It's never enough.
I had an uncle who was up to his ears in assets and drowning in money, yet had zero interest in the normal trappings of wealth. Judging by his outward appearance you'd never guess he might have a quid or two, because he only spent what he deemed necessary on himself. My brother in law was the same. He dressed from charity shops and others including myself gave him clothes and shoes to help out. When he died last year in an accident, his financial affairs and investments were a worldwide spider's web. Probate and solicitors are still drooling over it all over a year later.
I used to think it was a terrible quirk of fate that they didn't truly enjoy their money, but in reality they did,as the accruement was the buzz, the expensive gee-gaws most people buy held no interest.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I think government design comes into play as well. When someone is paying taxes for social security then they have already helped and it is up to the government to decide who is worthy of that help. Then there's the tax structure which is aimed at making people pay and be paid for help rather than doing it off the books.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 12:38 pmThere have been a few studies on this point.
