Deffo the way of the future though, 'on demand' subscription services are part of everyone's expectations now and cars see the opportunity to cash in.

Re: In todays news...
Just realised that Penny Mordaunt was defence secretary prior to Wallace, although she was sacked after 85 days. Made something of a name for herself in 2016 by claiming Turkey would join the EU in the next 8 years, that the UK had no veto over it, that it would put pressure on the NHS maternity services and insinuated it would lead to more criminals and terrorists entering the UK.Hoonercat wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 9:42 amToo risky, the closing of Operation Northmoor may throw up some awkward questions, even though he was only defence secretary for the latter part of it.
But Royal Military Police investigators who worked on Operation Northmoor told Panorama they had been obstructed in their efforts to gather evidence, blocked from visiting the sites of the shootings, and frustrated in attempts to interview senior leadership.
"We were hitting brick walls in every direction," one senior investigator said.
"I believe there was pressure from above to shut down the investigation. It became increasingly clear to me that it didn't matter what evidence we were able to gather, these cases were never going to be allowed to go to court."
Currently running second in the votes for next Tory leader and PM. Wonderful...

This is where the business model comes into conflict with right to repair. If it's you own the hardware why can't you do what you want with it? Even if that means you buy neat subscription bypass kits from enterprising people on eBay forcing the manufacturer to leave the hardware out and making all their cars more expensive.slowsider wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 10:25 amWill it lead to a hackers' paradise?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Jul 14, 2022 8:50 amProbably depends if you're BMW or not

Unexpected consequence of right to repair or a good way to force manufacturers to price more fairly and not see everything as an upsell opportunity?

Is it just me who thinks that the government calling a COBRA meeting as it's going to be a bit hotter than our usual drab summers might be a bit unnecessary? I'm reading all the warnings of impending heat doom, but I think I'd already figured than staying in the shade, drinking plenty of fluids and not running a marathon in a puffa jacket were the way to go.

Absolutely. Johnson skipped no less than 5 COBRA meetings in the early stages of the Covid pandemic, but is now making a big deal over something which he/they cannot make any material difference to. It's just window-dressing, being seen to be doing something.

I thought it summed up Boris Johnson nicely but hey, whatever satisfies your confirmation bias needs.
