I think I'd rather a nice V60 Ovlov.weeksy wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 8:29 pmHmmmm I still can't see us persuading @Welsh MuffinCouchy wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 8:08 pm So the difference in fuel between the CRV and an elgrand doing 12k miles a year is £1000 or £80 a month. An elgrand is £5-£6k cheaper. The elgrand will depreciate less too, in 6 years the elgrand total cost will have been less than the CRV.

Re: Are vans better offroad than cars ?
I’m basing it purely on money, the elgrand would be cheaper to run if you count cost to buy and depreciation and not just fuel. For some reason people are happy paying more for a car that does more mpg despite it costing more to run over it’s whole life.weeksy wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 8:29 pmHmmmm I still can't see us persuading @Welsh MuffinCouchy wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 8:08 pm So the difference in fuel between the CRV and an elgrand doing 12k miles a year is £1000 or £80 a month. Up the budget a bit.

It's a CC so it's 'jacked up' a bit over a normal car for better ground clearance.
You won't find more comfortable seats in anything but another Volvo.
Low miles, not to old, shame it's in the frozen North (and a write off).

They're tiny inside.
Plus, £6000 over budget, if I'm finding £6000 I may as well find £8000 and buy an 18 transit

If you're looking as pickups, do not look at Nissan's with D22 engines.

Pick ups are a waste of time. You can't walk away and leave valuable MTBs in one and they normally have a pretty useless payload anyway. If me were thee, i'd think about a van. You can even chuck a mattress, cooker and portapotti in it and make half camper out of it. Stick to your budget, forget about depreciation and worry more about recurrent costs. Buy something that works for you, and actually fits your needs.

Find me a decent van that can carry a zx6 and reasonable miles for £11000Taipan wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:41 pm Pick ups are a waste of time. Re: Are vans better offroad than cars ?
Doesn’t exist, how many times a year would it carry the zx6 ? You’ve got a trailer anyway. Get a transit connect/doblo LWB perfect for mtb duties, almost car like and more economical than a bigger vanweeksy wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:42 pmFind me a decent van that can carry a zx6 and reasonable miles for £11000Taipan wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:41 pm Pick ups are a waste of time. Re: Are vans better offroad than cars ?
Low miles vans are about but there's loads with starship mileages because that's what they do and that's what they are expected to do! I bet there's plenty out there to fit the bill!weeksy wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:42 pmFind me a decent van that can carry a zx6 and reasonable miles for £11000Taipan wrote: Mon Jul 11, 2022 9:41 pm Pick ups are a waste of time. Be fun getting a zx6 down from that deck....backwards. First thing in the back will be some bloomin' big ramps!

They seem to have all the disadvantages of a trailer and none of the advantages of a van.
I can see the superficial attraction but I bet a lot get bought and traded again pretty fast and the number you see crammed to the gunnels with everything inc. the kitchen sink on the back seats

Re: Are vans better offroad than cars ?
I really don't 'get' pickups unless you're living in the Outback (in which case they'd be Utes, of course). There is virtually zero security for anything in the back, the deck height is plus at least 6 inches compared to a van and unless you've got one of those fugly looking covers they turn into a paddling pool when it rains. All they do is mark you out as a bit of a mucho macho man (with a small willy).
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Makes a fair amount of sense if you plan to keep it for a while. The 90bhp version is going to feel a bit agricultural but the 1.6l 120bhp version could be quiteweeksy wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 6:02 am I wasn't actually serious lol

The reviews I've seen look quite positive - Van of the Year 2011

Re: Are vans better offroad than cars ?
The wife did point out that a van with 2 front seats doesn't work for Alps/trackday if all 3 of us attend.
Mmm it's a fair point
I think that may move the Vito up the list.
But they're all 100k+ miles.
But maybe the fact all vans are starship mileage tells us something anyway
I just found my dream van... Search for yours https://www.autotrader.co.uk/van-detail ... e-to=11000

Re: Are vans better offroad than cars ?
Looks really good but surprisingly cheap to me, although the loading bay looks like it's seen some action (unsurprisingly I guess)...but I'm no expert. Also, don't know how important the Euro rating is...that ones a 5 and I remember someone on here being pleased that they got a Euro 6.weeksy wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 7:44 am The wife did point out that a van with 2 front seats doesn't work for Alps/trackday if all 3 of us attend.

If you are cycling in the Surrey Hills there's a pretty good place at Beare Green that's good for a browse around (I think they used to be Leatherhead Commercials or something like that but must have, eventually, changed name after moving a few years ago). Maybe not to buy from if they're v premium but they do give a degree of confidence/support in their stuff - but just to compare various things in the flesh.
