However that someone fucks thing up re racing and Morzine. I guess at least you ill be quicker than him now.

A couple of day ago i pulled out the Specialized Status off the rafters to give it a quick once over... the as per the other thread i noticed the brake issues, which i've now sorted. But as i was sticking the order in for the new brakes i was met with "he doesn't even use the bloody thing"

And the statement would have been pretty much true and hard to argue against.. I think i've ridden the bike more than him in truth. Even that though is only 3 times.

I chatted with the lad about the Status who informed me, if we went to National DH tracks he wouldn't actually ride the Spare bike even if bike A was broken.... He didn't say it in a nasty way, but more in a 'don't think i'd actually manage to get down on it' and if it was down, it would be so slow it wouldn't trouble a timekeeper.

So as always, the cogs in the brain start grinding away and i've hopefully sorted a deal on this.

Which is a 2020/21 GT Fury expert. Carbon version of what he has, with a few variations. Size is the same (which is my only concern as to whether we'll need to replace 2 bikes in a years time instead of just 1 hard to sell DH bike).. But it ticks all the boxes as a replacement bike for days, or even potentially the primary bike.

We're falling into a minor issue of suspension springs.

I spoke to TFTuned about some fork springs for the X-Fusion RV1 front end who said "we don't do them, try Upgrade Bikes"...

That went half-well.... I was able to get in touch with them and they provided me with a spring chart.
THis shows the 'stock' spring is from 63kg rider weight up to 77kg. Currently my lad is 50kg... He's 5'7 maybe even 5'8 now but he's a skinny bugger, so weighs next to nothing. Upgrade bikes are unable to supply the 'red/soft' springs or have any idea where to get them.

It's possible there's a place in Italy can

If i can't get any springs, it would potentially be a bit of a deal breaker.

I've used them, both for work and for myself, for years for custom springs.

Chatting to my spanner and suspension guy and he was awash with Xfusion DH suspension issues, both bring a bit flakey and breaky

Neither of which are any use to us, so I think we're out.

Having 2 DH bikes to sell in 12 months time when he gets bigger also complicates the world. So upgrading to the next big bouncer is then more complex.

So the Status stays as spare and less DH bike until we sell both and go something modern with 40s and ready to roll.

So we did... the Status is still here for now.

THe only real reason this came up was because it was a GT Fury and the fact he wanted to swap for an Enduro bike. We've not been actively searching.

It's a 50:50 on this one for me.
50% i think having a 2nd DH bike he can have as a race spare makes sense
50% i think it's daft as it means days at Surrey Hill, Afan, FoD off-piste etc are all then off the cards for him.

But in his defence, he's not pushed either or any of these decisions either way "oh ok, sure..." and "that's great" are about what you get from him in terms of happiness/disappointment.

I can still see the Status hanging about.

LOL his DH bike is pretty sturdy... It's just for example we go all the way to North Wales for the weekend, the night in hotel etc and then something daft happens on the Sunday morning which means he can't race... it'd be pretty gutting. Especially next year when ranking points will potentially play something of a factor for his overall standings.
All of this is of course taking things a little to extremes in terms of possibilities.. but i do like to cover every eventuality.
