It sounds like the damping has gone in the rear shock if it's chucking you out of the seat.

Is there any oil leaking from the rear shock?

Is that such a thing ? I've seen many front forks with blown seals, but never seen a leaking shock. Maybe I've missed out :(

I can send you a couple in the post, both from 30 year old Yamahas, FZ750 widdled it all out on the garage floor, FZR400 just had a mild leak.
I've also had an XR250 blow it's seal out mid enduro, I spent the next two hours being smacked in the arse by the seat through the whoops, and my 86 KTMs White Power shock used to regularly blow the seal, despite only being two years old.

I've seen a few rear shock seals fail. One of mine went, on a s/h bike soon after I bought it. IIRC, the chrome was rusty and I suspect I might have been a bit heavier than the original owner, or maybe riding it a bit harder, because it looked like I'd used more travel. I didn't pay much for it, so a replacement didn't break the bank ;)

You certainly have missed out on some real excitement, by not (recently at least) owning any old knackered bikes.

When the oil pisses out your rear shock, it's prety much terrifying. The rear becomes a pogo stick, so you get bucked out the seat over bumps plus it becomes impossible to hold a line at any kind of speed. Sounds like what was described by the top poster, eh? You'd get similar symptoms from properly seized rear linkage bearings, or if some dickhead had "hilariously" wound all your damping settings out to zero or max, depending how much adjustment the shock had in it in either direction.

My money had been on seized steering neck bearings until the mention of getting bucked out the seat.

That would be me...

...on my own bike.

I'd been to Spa and setting off on the way back, the rear end of the FZ750 was all over the place.

Only as I bounced slowly back in the direction of Blightly did the memory surface of me lying under the bike at 3am with a beer in one hand and demonstrating how easy it was to change the damping on my Ohlins!

When I got home I ended up phoning Steve Linsdell to get the factory settings, and worked around those till it felt right again!

Mind you, when I got the GSX-R750 a few years later, it was the previous owner who'd turned everything up to the max for that rigid frame feel.

Just got back from Steve Jordans and it was money well spent!!! :D Thank you @Bigyin

My headrace bearings need replacing - which is probably what I could feel. He dropped the forks through the yoke so the front was a little more weighted. What with a new front tyre, it feels bloody marvellous.

I'll get the bearings done when I get new brake disks.

Get the bearings done as soon as you can, they'll get worse and the bike could become dangerous.

Interesting Thread - if it helps a bit and as you had such a belter of a time @ Pembrey last time... if it's Ok I'll get Will - our suspension specialist to do some work with you.

He's very experianced and does a lot of Road Bike Stuff - very friendly and his missus Sarah works with him as well - you'll have a great time.

All FOC - we'll foot the bill.

Cheers

Alan.

Lots of bikes sit outside. Must be shit design if water is allowed to sneak in.
