What grips are you using on your MTB ?

Post by weeksy »

Just kinda curious really. I’ve been running the Bontrager XR Trails on the Trek since i got it and i’m not really feeling them. But sometimes we just get on and ride don’t we… but this morning i thought i’d try some swapping.

Fabric Magic grips, too long in length and the ribs are too tall.
Brand X, They’re not bad but fairly worn and very little grip
Deity knuckleduster, Oh yeah, we REALLY like them
DMR Deathgrip soft/thin, not bad but that mid pattern isn’t the nicest.
Bontrager trail XR, hmmm i like these even less after trying the Deity !
Overall the Deity win and i’ve just ordered a new pair as this set are for the Status 160. But for a couple of days the boy can have the Brand X fitted, not that he ever rides the 160 lol. I think it’s moved twice in 3 months.

Ergon ones - with a little lippy bit to rest my palms , as my hands alway go numb.

But oddly that didn't happen in Morzine - so the DMRs may go back on

I've debated the Ergons with the wonky bit.

I use cheap foam ones kept in place with good old Insette hairspray. They take the high frequency vibrations out of the equation without me needing heavy palm padding on the gloves which is important because I get a bit of Renauds from time to time and I've got short stubby hands which means I need thin grips.

LOL, no, you asked what grips are on my mtb, and I truthfully answered that it has the ones that came with it and that there's nothing wrong with them. They're Haibike branded if you're that interested, but probably made by someone else, the whole bike fits me amazingly well, the only thing I've changed on it is the stem to make it steer quicker in woods, but for comfort I would be better with the original longer stem - the stem I fitted is a Haibike one because it matches the rest of the bike.

And I liked the KTM you posted today - how often does that happen?
I'm a bit tired because of it being warm and it getting light early in the morning, but I'm not grumpy, I'm even looking at my £1000 arrears on my energy bill as an interest free loan from Eon.

Got my energy bill down to £530 by pointing out that the energy was used before the current price rises.

Which has got nothing to do with MTB grips, but this is where I mentioned it.

For riding rufty tufty downhills DMR Death grips.

For general trail and XC riding Bontrager grips.

Because I ride far more trail and XC than downhill just stay with the Bontrager grips.

At BPW on Friday but can't be arsed to change grips for different uses.

I will add I was a die hard Ergon user until I tried Death Grips.

For downhill I like the extra grip but for other riding the waffles piss me off.

Would like a pair of black Sensus Lite grips but they're like rocking horse shit atm.
