NBT: The old keeper is going, meet the new one!

Post by Taipan »

After three theft attempts of the X-ADv, I decided to sell it before it gets taken and I've been struggling with its weight during slow speed manoeuvers, parking etc. So I put it up for sale and pondered what to replace it with?

I've always been a fan of the MT range, but I don't think its any secret that the MT-07 I bought just didn't fly for me. The power seemed to tail off annoyingly quicker than you'd expect and it had one of the vaguest and unnerving front ends I've ever had on a bike? :crazy:

I absolutely love the look of MT-10, but in reality, it's just too powerful for me. The MT-09 had a funny back light that kind of irked me, and the latest ones had the cyclops look that also irked me! But I reckoned the CP3 engine would get me past that and I started looking at 09s. Hang on, that's an MT-10 isn't it? :wtf: No, its a gen 2 MT-09 that I had no idea even existed. I was in love! :wub: God knows how that one passed me by but it had! However, the hunt was now on for my new quarry!

So I hit the usual sites and looked for a low mileage Gen 2, prefably in black. Within minutes one was in my sights. Trigger pulled and I owned it! 8-) 6k miles with service history. New Sportmaxtyres ( :? ), Yamaha heated grips, steering damper, Puig touring screen and a Supermofoesq box that I'll probably rent out as a home for immigrants.

It landed this afternoon and I took it out for a quick shakedown. Fook me! Been a long while since I rode anything like this! :shock: Its light, flickable and has tons of grunt with a good bit of top end rush! I felt instantly at home with it. In many ways its the bike I've always been looking for! :thumbup:

Its has rider electric things that I know nothing about. It seems the rider modes equate to

B = Boring
Std = just that
A = Awesome

Chuck in some traction control to keep this talentless boy out of trouble and the love affair just grows! Proper, proper chuffed with it.

Downsides? Well it deffo needs an exhaust on it as I need to hear that soundtrack, but that's easily remedied! Brakes felt vague and wooden, so I'd guess they have those hideous sintered pads in. I know people love sintered pads but they need heat to bite and that rarely happens on my commute. So if I'm right and it is sintered pads they'll get binned and replaced with OEM. It has Dunlop Sportmaxtyres on. Now its not like I ever push a set of tyres, but dunlops have nearly caught me out in cold wet conditions whenever I've had them. These seemed fine today so maybe I'll see the summer out with them? Any dramas and they're gone though. I love plain black bikes and intended to remove the garish green decals, but I surprise myself by saying I quite like them in the flesh!

So here it is, my new keeper! :lol:

Nice one TP. :thumbup:

Looks v smart. (Those MT09 labels on the wheels would have to go though).

Is the X-Adv advertised yet?

Other than the rimming tape and logo on the swinger, that's a nice bike....

Yes, its advertised all over the place! Got quite a bit of interest but mainly from people with something to sell first! :roll:

The MT will be sold before September, but it is a nice looking bike, the rack improves it's looks

I bought it blind, so I was relieved to find out it was much cleaner in the flesh than it looked in the pictures! TBH I suspect all the green/yellow decals will go soon...

Pah! It'll be here until at least mid October! Its a keeper! :lol:

You should see it with the top box on. If I was parked at the coast and it was rough weather, I could see a lifeboat coming out of it! :D
