New bike-scratching that itch

I’ve been longing for another 2stroke for a while now, their days are surely numbered, couple of years at most. I came close to ordering a Beta Xtrainer but wasn’t really keen on spending over 6k for something I’d only use a couple of times a month.

Looked at a few KMX 200, DTs and TDRs but prices have gone through the roof in the last couple of years.

Got talking to a workmate who once had a jap import KDX 250 SR for greenlaning that he’d sold to a mate who was now looking to get rid along with some spares.

Turned out “Pinky” was in better nick, smaller and lighter than I was expecting, after a quick guided test ride round some local byways the deal was done.

Well set up for greenlaning as is.






The amount of spares originally acquired by my workmate is insane, including wheels, almost 2 full sets of plastics, spare tank, seat, swingarm, shock, 2 pair of forks, discs, sprockets..........I haven’t got to the bottom of it yet.

Premix now, originally autolobe, got the pump and tank in on of those Linbins but don’t plan on refitting them.

I rode one of them many years ago as part of a JDM group test for MCN.

KDX250SR, Serrow, mk2 CRM250 and something else. I'd taken my own KDX220R.

We made Chris Walker rider the Serrow all the time, he loved it.

The CRM was the best, but I think the SR was a close second, just needs a plastic tank and the auto lube junking... You're half way there

Why the preference for premix?

CRMs are aces, I had the full on electronic everything one. Wonderful OTT Honda engineering.

Pumps are prone to failing, the oil tank running out without you noticing, running at a fixed ratio, etc...

Premix is a ball ache on a commuter, but on a toy makes more sense as you can tune the ratio better.

I used to strap a bottle of Two Stroke and a plastic beaker with maker lines on it to the seat of mine if I was going any distance.

They drink petrol and have a reputation for seizing, they're amazing fun to ride.

Don't worry about all that premixing bollocks, just gan it up on t'back wheel.
