Best loaners?

In the past I've never bothered much with buying from dealers,so my contribution is limited. I did however blag a ZH2 for a day when my Zed was in for it's first (and only) dealer service.

A truly monster engine. Quite blew me away. Maybe the best bike Kawasaki has ever made.

Triumph Speed Twin from the dealers when mine was being serviced. I didn't get a picture of it as was having so much fun riding it. I contemplated running away with it never going back to pick mine up. A lot of fun to ride and completely unassuming to look at.

I also borrowed it's little brother the Street Twin, here's a pic of it.

Well it would be rude if I didn't contribute....

Only had the one loaner and it was a Street Triple R. Addictive induction roar, comfortable, very agile, and fast for me. Definitely a contender for my next bike.

I have only ever had one loaner, when I took my Firestorm in for its first service in 2004. The loaner was a CB500, I couldn't wait to give it back

Took my T100 in to the dealer for a first service and they flung me a key and said it is outside. It was a Tiger 955 and it was fcuking TALL. Super bike, but in heavy traffic i would be a statistic waiting to happen. Stopping required a serious advance decision about which foot to put down, when I chose the left foot down and the camber was a bit steep it was terrifying waiting for the foot to contact the ground, and even more terrifying trying to force the bike upright to take off again. Bear in mind I had not ridden anything except a few miles on the T100 for nearly 40 years.

More recently the dealer has a CBR600 that they use as a loaner. Lovely little bike, similar size to my CB500 but just a mite quicker.

I've only ever had two bikes serviced by a bike shop (not a franchised dealer) and wasn't offered a loan bike.

First time one of the sales guys gave me a lift back to town... on his TL1000S
Second time I got the bus.

Took my 15yo 1200gs to North Oxford bmw for an overdue "technical upgrade" as the fuel filter was leaking when I bought it with just 3k on the clock, after failing to start a 1250gs they loaned me a 900xr instead, very capable bike but my god it was bland.

Loan bikes..

First was a ratty old CBR600 when my Fazer went in for it's first service. I was really disappointed cos it was really tatty but my god it rode well, much nicer than my Fazer to ride.

I've had 2 Duke II's when I had one, plus a 625 SMC, which I liked so much I bought one.

I've had a 690 Duke but I already owned one and a 790 Adv which I found a bit odd. The engine and character of a fun road bike but in an odd tall rounder. Went well but felt a bit budget in places even compared to the 690.

Whenever i have had any work done at Ducati Norwich they have always let me have the pick of the demo fleet so have ridden Streetfighters, Panigales, DiavelX , Multistrada 1200 DVT, 1260 and Enduro so plenty of choice over the last 6 years.

The one that beats all them was an MV Augusta Brutale 1098 from an independent who had just got the franchise a few years ago.

Back when I used to use dealers for servicing, I took my VFR 750 FK in and got a GSX 750 'teapot' as a loaner (this was early 90s). It was inferior in every single way to my old VFR.

A few years later, having PXed my 1989 FK VFR750 for a 1996 FT VFR750, I took the FT in for a service - and got my old FK as a loaner! (It had come back as a PX). It was really nice to re-acquaint myself with the old girl. The motor was still a peach, but the cycle parts were showing some wear and tear. I'd put best part of 80k miles on it in 6 years and by the time I rode it again the mileage was approaching 6 figures but the motor still felt full of beans.
