All the above.
Funniest thing is that it was the front wheel that got broken on the kerb and the solution is for the rear. Changing a pop-rivetted tyre would be fun too.
The idea of putting the plastic pipe in to make puncture-proof wheels could be interesting. Does anyone do anything like it? I suppose 'solid' tyres are available.

@Dodgy knees tried some solids not long ago... they were apparently not very niceCount Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 9:02 am All the above.

Pneumatic tyres were invented to overcome the problems of solid tyres.

There are a lot more materials available now though. You could tailor an equivalent behaviour from a light weight tyre using a closed-cell foam centre with a denser outer I imagine. Fitting/security on the rim might be an issue. I guess if the demand was there it would happen but there are other anti-puncture solutions so there isn't the drive to do it.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 10:08 amPneumatic tyres were invented to overcome the problems of solid tyres.
Lateral thinking....Wonder what they did on the moon buggy? Probably didn't take a puncture repair kit.

Love the OP - it's just doing it to prove you can, really?
ISTR the Moonbuggy had mesh/springy 'tyres'. I know they had to fashion some mudguards for it using the flight plan and duck tape. Bodging on the moon

Michelin make foam replacements for tubes for dirt bike tyres, you can buy them in different "pressures"

Must be a devil of a job to fit if the tyre is going to be secure on the rim?

I haven't used one, but they're supposed to be arses to fit without damaging them, I think you use rim locks to keep the tyre in place, they wear out quickly if they get used on hard surfaces.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 11:08 amI thought someone must.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 11:01 am Michelin make foam replacements for tubes for dirt bike tyres, you can buy them in different "pressures"

If I remember correctly the wheels/tyres on the moon buggy could not support the weight of the buggy on the Earth and only worked on the moonMr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 10:51 am Love the OP - it's just doing it to prove you can, really?

I recently saw an article on puncture proof tyres for cars using plastic fingers (I think) instead of airJamJar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 4:31 pmIf I remember correctly the wheels/tyres on the moon buggy could not support the weight of the buggy on the Earth and only worked on the moonMr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 10:51 am Love the OP - it's just doing it to prove you can, really?

Good pic of the Lunar Rover wheels here. From a distance they look like pneumatic tyres but they're mesh with aluminium treads.

Biggest problem with solid tyres was weight. Made pedalling twice as hard. Maybe better on an ebike.
