Grip glue?

What's the latest and greatest....s'been oh I dunno, 10 years at least since I've done a pair.

I nearly crashed the Bonneville last time out due to the right hand grip deciding that staying on the bar was optional. Once I knew it was trying to escape I was OK, but a bit squeaky bumhole when it first happened! 30 degree heat probably didn't help.

I have new grips for it anyway, the current ones are a bit dog eared. I think last time I did this I used hairspray, but I assume there are better options!

Renthal grip glue, but petrol works just as well.

Depends how tight they are on the bars.

Last ones I changed I had to use WD40 to get the grip on, it was so tight it didn't need anything else.

I've also used hairspray and washingup liquid before.

The WD40 melts the rubber a little, then it dries like glue, petrol does the same and so does 3in1 oil.

The manufacturer* of the grips I like says to use WD40.

*No I can't remember their name. They make the fatter grips, but not like those fitted to Triumphs.

Always used hairspray (any old cheap shit) to fix LH grips, and an airline with small nozzle and screwdriver to get them off.

Washing up liquid can work, but only if you use a tiny drop or two, not half the bottle.... as i had to tell my dad over when i caught him drizzling Fairy all over one of the classics once. Even after he lock wired the grips they still rotated like Tibetan prayer wheels.

I use water and it's a little bit tricky to get them on but haven't had any issues with them coming off unexpectedly.

The recent heatwave just shows you what (unsurprisingly) a bit of heat can do, and I dunno if even glue is much help. The sun made a right mess of my car's gear knob, for example - it went all floppy!

I’ve done a ridiculous amount and all you need is hairspray and Lockwire and that’s it.

If you’re not going to use lockwire then use the grip glue.

As Mango says you can use an airline to remove grips which isn’t really necessary if you’re not using them again so you’re as well cutting them off, but you can also use this trick for fitting them, I don’t bother doing that as the hairspray works well enough but I’ve done quite a few that way, usually on other folks bikes when they don’t have hairspray at hand but have an airline handy.

Wull may have hair spray handy, but I've always got WD40 and it works.

you can put a bit of brake cleaner up the grip to help it slip on, and if you really want to get them back off, you can - push a small, long blade pozi/phillips under the grip, quirt in brake cleaner, turn the grip, repeat.

Afrer fitting - lock wire to stop water getting underneath.

My left shoulder is mullered after a grip came off during my MX days. I learned my lesson.
