Angle Grinder

I have been tasked with taking away a concrete staircase carpet and grinding away all the old glue and shit. I managed to get the square behind the front door done (Not the wee square in picture) and cleaner than in the picture but i killed the angle grinder. Was it the clouds of dust or my little 700W motor? I killed a 1200W one before doing a simmilar job and i was blaming the dust getting sucked into the motor. This one was smoking in the end and making arcing noised before dying. Do i just need a bigger toy or fan to blow the shit out the front door?

Angle grinder seems like an odd tool to use for the job, you might be better off using a vibrating cutter (I don't know the proper name for them even though I've got one)

Multi-tool or sometimes multi-cutter.

Dust getting into any motor will make it overheat quickly, whatever your solution you need adequate dust extraction.

The disks are brilliant. Its taking the glue off in 2nd's as well a cleaning the top of the concrete. The bolt that holds the disks in place sit in a recess allowing you to hold the grinder flat on the floor (With No Guard)

I have a multi tool but thinking it would take an age to do the job. Its a flight of stairs and the glue is top and facing side on each step.

Aye the dust it so thick you cant see up one flight of stairs. Ill try it in a loose bag and do short bursts when my new grinder arrives. May as well get a fan running also to blow more out the door. Bloody better masks also as concrete dust up the nose it not nice

It might be worth popping the brushes out and seeing what state they are in, but it's probably dust killing the commutator. Are there any angry grinders that have dust extraction built in (asking cos I don't know)? I have a wall chasing tool that has dust extraction, but that does have an enclosed area that you can fit a vacuum cleaner nozzle to.

As for masks, this is slightly overkill, but really works at keeping dust out of your airways.

I keep an old Dyson DC01 for dust extraction, not professional grade but makes a good stab at it without getting a clogged up bag every few minutes.

Definitely look into getting a dust shroud / collector to attach to the vacuum, better for the tool and the grinder

Don’t forget the PPE for you as well, lungs, eyes and ears!

Just been searching. Got two spare hoovers in the loft also. I just never knew these things existed so angle grinder, dust shroud and decent masks getting ordered later.
