On a trackday, does any body else........

Post by Demannu »

Disconnect their front brake light switch?
Not done a TD for a while, but whenever I took the venerable Fazer out, always pulled the connector off, as I don't like people trying to use me as a brake marker, cos that's a good way to get a free trip back to the pits in the back of the van.

I always fit an Accossato master cylinder and they don't have brake light switch.
Pisses off my mates on the roads :D

I used to do the same.

There's track bikes out there without any lights, what's the difference?

Nope. I ride it as the bike is ridden daily. Sometimes I'll take plate off, mostly not.

I changed my plate to make it easier for punters to find me in the melee.

Nope, never even given it a thought- if it has a brake light switch it stays as is- I've occasionally had people sail past me and run off trying to out-brake me, but I can't believe it's really a common issue - people brake when they want or feel comfortable to brake rather than going by someone else ( who could be on a completely different /lighter/ better braked/ tyred / piloted bike) don't they?

You've not been out in novice group, feck knows what some people use as brake markers, the ones who brake early are fine, it's the eejeets going on straight at bends that annoy me, friggin session stopped because some numpty discovers he isn't Marc Marquez.

Rant over, I went off on one there.

Never taken a road bike on track but if I did, and I probably will take the GSX on track, I wouldn't/won't bother.

Never even thought about disconnecting it. If anyone is taking my brake light as a braking marker they really need to be looking elsewhere ;)

My bike has no lights but when it did I left them all connected while on track.

I found that when i went past Billy Big Bollocks, they would try and tag onto me and then try and outbrake me somewhere either inappropriate or just plain daft.
The fazer may not have had much ground clearance, but you could brake up to the apex on most corners, then use 75ftlb to haul you out.
The fazer gave Tricky a bit of a shock ;)

Aye, I remember that day - proof if ever it were needed that appearances (a bike that looks like it's spent at least 90% of it's life on the sea bed and a rider that, err, shall we say is not quite the build of your average athlete ;) ) can be very deceptive! :D
