Iraq excepted, I think Blair was probably one of our best post war PMs. Certainly the most sucessful Labour PM.

If we're fine with that then, er, fine. But it has to be a cross-political-party amnesty on ignorance, self-interest and law-breaking. So we can absolve Starmer from once looking at a polaroid of Savile for starters. And Abbott's numeracy and shoes. And of course it has to apply to the rest of us too.

Well Blair's Iraq was Boris's COVID and will possibly also be Boris's brexit, if he hangs on. Political ballsups including fibbing, death and hardship that is. Most PMs get there in the end if they last long enough.
The point is that people who should've wiser from Blair et al's shenanigans, seem to tolerate that in Boris. Istr Blair claimed ignorance over WMDs. Maybe he set the benchmark too high?
And vice versa I'd say. Tribalism will out. Apologies if I'm peevish about this, there's an extra layer of hypocrisy to listen too up here from the Nats'.

I think a lot of social media fever is responsible for that sort of thing. Cummings was a self-interested worm when he was at BJs side and he didn't become less of a worm, any more believable or any less self-interested, after he later gave us his view of the inside story.

I'm not too sure I would pick those two examples. Bercow is a little self interested shit, who would try and manipulate democracy to his own ends. And he is a "bully". Cummings is a little self interested shit, who would try and manipulate democracy to his own ends. And he is a "bully". But he cleverly drip fed Boris's excesses to the press.
I am sure there are many politicians who have been reviled in their day - but will, with the passage of time, be seen to be foresighted.
But it won't be either of those two.

It certainly wasn't because of the tsunami of sleaze that has washed over everything he touches, was it? Tory MPs hold theit nose and look the other way, but only just as long as they are part of the gravy train.
Just shows how useless Labour are, they're less popular than the Conservative party led by Boris Johnson, Labour need to get off their arses and start coming out with some popular policies, rather than they're current strategy of "Boris is a twat, don't vote for him", everyone knows Boris is a twat.
