I have no idea about the other week, I don't follow papers from the uk and most of my uk news is gleaned from here!! LOL I had to dig deep in the grey cells to remember who Dame Kelly Holmes was!!

Re: In todays news...
I saw this on the BBC the other week and my first thought was that outing stories are, thankfully, not really a 'scoop' for any paper anymore as most of the world simply shrugs and turns the page. I have as much interest in Rebel Wilson's sex life as I do her preference for tea or coffee.Horse wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 10:15 amhttps://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-61775909
I find celebrity 'coming out' announcments in the press an annoyance.
Celeb: 'I'M GAY!!'
Me: 'Good for you, but nobody gives a shit apart from you and the person you're shagging. Now sit down, shut up and get on with your life'.

What a nobber. He's fine being asked about whether he is, or has shagged, sex-workers or intravenous-drug-users and is obliged to truthfully answer 'intrusive' questions about lifestyle - and this is the one he objects to?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 12:09 pm "It is nonsensical and it makes me angry because there are vulnerable people waiting for blood, including children, and in desperate need of help. But they've been denied my blood because of the obligation to answer a question that can't possibly be answered."
This is probably why there's always a big queue when I go to donate - because some nobber is giving the nurses a hard time over a tickbox.

Rugby bans the trans now, get ready for a woke battle.
BBC News - Transgender players banned from international rugby league
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/61875651
Trans activists are demonstrating how unbalanced women's sport already is and using it as an excuse to make it more unbalanced. All the trans community will achieve is killing off women's sport, I think most of them will be happy with that result and the trans women athletes will realise they were patsies for some political extremists.

IDGAS either, just it's a bit nasty if they don't get to decide. Have to wonder how many others were as a result of newspaper 'threats'?

Re: In todays news...
Some years ago The Krankies were outed in the press (The Sun, IIRC) as swingers*. To their credit, they fronted it down, stated that as consenting adults they were free to do whatever they wanted with other consenting adults and the salacious news story withered and died.
*Hence giving birth to the pub-comment to anybody with a crappy old car, 'Did you get that from a swinging party with The Krankies?', i.e. insinuating that you pulled out their car keys from the bowl and fled, notwithstanding the state of their vehicle.

Women’s tennis and women’s Olympic events are mainstream, with a big following.Count Steer wrote:Can't help but think all this stuff is whipped up by the media to put it all front and centre in the public's mind....and conversations.....

Putting men into those competitions would be noticeable, even to the public’s mind.

Re: In todays news...
Scottish comedian Stanley Baxter came out as gay in 2020, aged 94.
It made the news, even though it was the least surprising thing I’d ever heard.

Transgender players have been banned from women's internationals while rugby league's governing body does further research on its inclusion policy.
