If it costs 37k, surely they could have afforded to put in a 350/400 engine in it. Make it far more usable.

The styling is weird, it doesn't know what it wants to be. It's got.some alleged state of the art motor making huge power and its got wire wheels. The frame, if you want to look like an old bike then make it look like a new bike. It's just odd.if it looked like a tz350 or something, cool. It could look like a late gp250 April ia or honda with that motor but it doesn't.

I don't doubt it can make 76horse, but I'd like to know what duty cycle it was signed off to. Whats the warranty mileage, is there a rev limit for that, do you Still get 76hp etc? What's the service life of it making 76

Like I said above, a 350/400 with 76 gee gees would be better and more reliable.

From the MCN article.
Langen, who tell us that servicing is every 1800 miles. During which, the gearbox oil is replaced and the pistons and rings inspected. Langen don’t anticipate the need for any top-end replacements at that point, but obviously this remains to be seen.

An inspection means a strip down. Not cheap. And I'm sure the rings will be buggered. Maybe changed whether they needed to be or not.
And a 2 stroke of that power will need running in for a bit.

Development levelled off because of MotoGP and the diesels, but there are still people working with the 2T like Orbital in Oz. There was also talk of using 2T engines in F1, but I can't see that happening for a moment.

My point is that it doesn't need to make stupid amounts of power, simply because 2T bikes can be made so light. I firmly believe that 85-90 hp in a sub 130kg bike with decent rideability characteristics is eminently achievable.

I tried something like that 30 years ago. 350 YPVS in a Hejira box section steel frame. 130kg wet and 60hp. Only needed a single disc up front.

Many years ago (1991) Padgetts bought Schwantz RG500 from Suzuki.
My mate Dave raced it in Euro 500 series. I rode it at Cadwell and it scared the fuck out of me. And I was still quick.
2 years later they made it road legal and rented it out for £1,000 a day.

MCN put it through speed trap in 1994 at 195.

The power was ample sufficiency.

I'm not blown away by the retro style look of it but I'd sure like a bash on it.
And at 1800 miles service intervals it likely lasts better than the hipster cafe racers with no airfilters that everyone tosses off about like they're special so its a kind of win in my book.

76bhp from a 2 stroke 250 is easily achievable, making the top end last for more than a couple of hours is the difficult part.

This popped up on my YouTube as I often watch the channel. Shakey riding the Lagen. Seemed a bit of a non 2 stroke power delivery which from the sounds of it is deliberate, also would have expected it to be more lively.

I think you need to read my post in context of the posts above it and the rest of my posts in this thread.

And how I wish a 1982 Z1000J made 100bhp, a 1982 Z1000J with a high compression 1170 big bore, ZX1100 head and cams, open exhaust and flat slide carbs makes 105bhp at 8500 rpm, and it's got a welded crank to stop it coming apart.

What forks have you fitted? Years ago I fitted a set of Marzocchis to my 350LC and they were an improvement, but not night and day. It has OE fitted these days.

I take it they're banking on these things not being ridden much? Basically they've taken a highly tuned 250 and used modern electronics to make it rideable. I'd be surprised if one that was ridden hard, actually made it to 1800 miles without blowing itself sky high. Has anyone actually independently dynoed one?

And it doesn't look anywhere as nice as an RGV or NSR250.

An old GSXR1100 makes a genuine 115 to 125 rwhp standard. And will do it for 100k I wonder how many of the 200bhp 1000s will have all their horses if they make it that far.
