Jody's KTM690 is it broken?

Post by Jody »

As some of you will be aware my 2016 KTM690 duke dumped it's oil out a few weeks ago. I finally managed to helicoil the broken thread. I've put 1.5 L of cheapo oil in (1.7L capacity) and started it up.

Bear in mind the bike has always been noisy, it is a KTM after-all! I'm not certain it's noisier. Compared to the second video, it's questionably quieter !!??

What say the RTTL minds ?

not broken.

Sorted my sound issues....

That's a normal 690 engine there.

Quieter! (Particularly as the first one is indoors).

I could go start mine up, but honestly that sounds exactly like a 690.

I'd be out already

Yebbut...his still sounds quieter than the second one - which I assume is a 'healthy' bike. Not that either of them sound like a sewing machine exactly.

Thanks for the feedback

I'm going to run it up to temp again, drop the cheapo oil and replace with the pukka stuff and take it out for a ride.

As far as I understand, if it is knackered it will get louder and be sluggish quite quickly !

Only just seen this.

That sounds like a regular 690 engine to me.

Good luck, hopefully you've dodged a bullet.

Maybe a little bit of extra wear has helped it?

Like how bikes run in at full throttle on the dyno make more power, etc..

Didn't realise that I'd not updated this thread......

The 690 seemed fine with it's fresh oil and helicoiled oil filter cover.

However an abundance of disposable income and a dash of paranoia saw me ordering a brand new engine cover and gasket and a set of clutch plates. The bike and all parts were handed over to a local mechanic in the UK who put it all together for me. It's been fine since......

I have an engine management light on and the bike cut out on me twice recently. KTM dealer diagnosed Lamda sensor so I have one on order.

Then yesterday the clocks did this.....

and if that wasn't enough it also gave warnings or air tempreture sender playing up. It was 28c and it warned me to be careful of ice !!

I seem to recall the dash being a problem spot on all the Dukes with LCD screens from 125s to 790s. Bit of a bugger. Glad the engine seems fine though.

Yeah i've seen Dash issues, but not like that, they usually crack. that looks more like something on the circuit board has burnt out inside and melted it.
