Hence loads of going cheap UK reg vehicles on the continent from expats who will surely take a bid to get rid.

I'd say he's got two hopes; Bob Hope and no hope. I'd also advise him to be careful what he wishes for.

Do the same as Harris owners in the UK do, use the FJs frame number and V5, saves going through any form of type approval stuff, if you choose a 40 year old frame number it wouldn't need an MOT.

Vehicle historic still need a CT every 5 years!
The main issue is that nobody outside the French Govt have an inkling what the bike test will include, so there is plenty of en colere towards the new legislation.

They're mustard keen here. All vehicles join the queue into huge hangar and tested.
Went with a mate last year and we were behind the sea front tour mini train and 5 carriages :obscene-birdiedoublered:

I'm half pleased because it means bikes don't have to be standard, but equally, I'm pretty sure there are some out there that REALLY REALLY need checking!!

Typically those will be the crashed ones. ;) So if you're confidently maintaining your own, it's fine!

I'm pretty confident that I'll get a friend (or a garage) to do a regular check for me!! I rode a mates bike a few years ago (I'm sure I've said this somewhere, maybe on this thread) who is mechanically minded and does his own stuff and the steering on his XT was very notchy and not very nice. He hadn't felt it because it had been so gradual I suppose. Not sure how dangerous it would be to someone that hasn't realised, but I'm pretty sure a failing head bearing is an MOT fail!! LOL

But, I wouldn't rely on my skills or knowledge at all!! Hopefully I'll get to know some of the moto places around here so I can get someone else to check things for me (unless I get to the point that I can ride to the Dordogne for a weekend!! :1 )
