I'm going to predict that this thread goes reasonably well for 4 pages, descends into mmpp after that, then gets pulled by Weeksy at 8 pages, with the possibility of a 24 hour ban for at least one user, maybe two.

I give it until the next 5 posts

Re: Living in Rwanda..
They're all economic migrants from the outset, I doubt many can support themselves so will be looking for jobs. Some will be genuine refugees, people seeking refuge from whatever life they've left. Some will have suffered no persecution at home and just reckon they can earn more here.Mussels wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 12:34 pmAt what point does an assylum seeker become an economic migrant? Just lock it and if people really want to discuss it someone can start a proper thread in the right place rather than try to stir shit in General Mayhem

Just let it run. We all know what it is about and we are all big boys (and girls). Those who get offended must want to be offended.

Re: Living in Rwanda..
I heard today that the UK was going to be taking on refugees from Rwanda in a kind of swapsie deal?
Considering this scheme is due to cost over a hundred million it seems lime a very expensive way to end up with more or less the same number of people and also get the ones who didn't even want to be here.

If that is indeed the case, it's not the best deterrent is it?
Maybe I need an article in The Sun to make sense of it cos it's not working for me.

Re: Living in Rwanda..
Here we go, one of the lads at work mentioned it today
Seems like a good way of achieving fuckall whilst spending a load of money during a period when taxes are increasing.
"Government documents reveal that a number of Rwandan refugees will be welcomed to the UK as part of the scheme. Part of an agreement between the two nations reads: "The Participants will make arrangements for the United Kingdom to resettle a portion of Rwanda’s most vulnerable refugees in the United Kingdom, recognising both Participants’ commitment towards providing better international protection for refugees."

Re: Living in Rwanda..
Then genuine refugees won't be upset, but just maybe some of them aren't genuine and aren't coming to the UK to find safety.demographic wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 7:16 pmAhh, but the gov seems keen to say just how well treated they'll be in Rwanda?Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 7:02 pmI think it's to put folk off going to UK and the hundreds of associated drownings.demographic wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 7:00 pm I heard today that the UK was going to be taking on refugees from Rwanda in a kind of swapsie deal?

Re: Living in Rwanda..
So it's moved, DIGAS?
Seriously, the Rwanda ploy may, or may not, be a waste of money. Time will tell. But how would the RTTL massive suggest we deter economic migrants and people smugglers from abusing the asylum system? Or do we welcome everyone, with no limit until the island is full?

I believe Rwanda is a nice place to visit unless your nickname is Toots or Tootsie.

Re: Living in Rwanda..
Make all current UK residents reapply for residency using a points system. Non qualifiers go straight to Rwanda.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 10:55 pm So it's moved, DIGAS?

New migrants are similarly graded, fails to Rwanda.
New entries are subject to a space being freed up (death).
If no slots are free and the new migrant scores high then the resident with the least points, you guessed it, Rwanda.
Fairness, diversity, it'd keep you on your toes. Plus no blaggards and ne'er-do-wells.
If Rwanda became a melting pot of disaffected thickets, goons and villains then I can't see a problem with that because it's like really far away.
Re: Living in Rwanda..
Allowing asylum applications in other countries would be a start and/or allow people here to apply on behalf of people in other countries especially where there is a family connection. We did that for Ukrainian refugees but for some reason we can't do that for Syrians or Afghans.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 10:55 pm So it's moved, DIGAS?

Re: Living in Rwanda..
How about we start with your house, you can be compared to a few others and if any of them are deemed more worthy then you get moved to a council house.DefTrap wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 8:18 amMake all current UK residents reapply for residency using a points system. Not sure who gets to decide if you are more worthy than them but it won't be you.
