Re: Rubber sprockets
Rubber?
Most modern motorcycles have cush drives that use rubbers between the sprocket and the wheel. You're not thinking of those sprockets that have an alloy centre (for light weight) and steel teeth (for longevity)?

Re: Rubber sprockets
Is it the front sprockets that have rubber on the sides? Well known for the rubber to wear on the speed triples resulting in a loose front sprocket. No idea why the rubber though, maybe vibration damping?

Re: Rubber sprockets
If they were any good, the makers would use them. Maybe magic beans ?
Stick to tried and tested stuff.

Re: Rubber sprockets
Yeah. A lot of bikes have them as stock. I wouldn't pay any extra for a 'quieter' transmission.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 9:03 pm Oh those rubber sprockets.
I think they're suppose to quieten down the chain.

That's what the said when they told me they had fitted it but to me, that's solving a problem that didn't exist.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 9:03 pm Oh those rubber sprockets.

Re: Rubber sprockets
Standard DRZ400S front sprockets had the rubber, DRZ400E didn't have, so I assumed it was noise related as the S was road legal and the E was a competition bike.

Re: Rubber sprockets
I guess they're heavier than a sprocket without rubber, so it's sapping at least 0.0001bhp.

Oh no! What with the increasing price of petrol it's going to have to go. I can't afford it.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 9:13 pm I guess they're heavier than a sprocket without rubber, so it's sapping at least 0.0001bhp.

Electric bikes do!
Thats why Triumph's leccy concept bike has a carbon reinforced belt drive instead.
This is the future you've all got to look forward to
