I saw the centre Doctor on Tuesday and asked for some multi vits (cos the food is not great - and worse for me cos there's a few things I struggle to eat if they are overcooked, like vegetables!! LOL)

One of the two drs was very dismissive and said "you get all the vitamins you need from your food, you don't need multi vits" - bet she doesn't have to eat all her food here!!! Even the French I have made friends with are really quite unhappy!! So it isn't just me!! LOL


Anyway - I've learnt a lot in a 20 minute conversation and as soon as I mentioned HRT and menopause she was incredibly helpful on nutrition advice

So, I now get a salad salad for starter in the evenings (when I asked for salad, I meant salad verte, but because I missed off the 'verte', I've been getting all sorts of weird and wonderful things - most of which I won't eat!! LOL)

Also, the veg in the evenings is either non existent or just rank!! So we've agreed that I'll get a portion of green beans as well as the normal plate of whatever, so that helps!

Cos I'm an old bird, I have to have 3 x fromage frais or natural yoghurt a day for calcium, 3 x fruit per day and a fresh lemon each day to squeeze the juice into some water for Vit C. AND, a protein drink 2 x a day!! I didn't realise how much or how fast muscle deteriorates with menopause, but apparently it's a really big thing, so I need to eat a lot of protein when I get home, and for now the protein drinks!


Silly little things, but it's brilliant to learn stuff like this!

Sounds odd, but my friend's neighbour, Ted, died the other day. He was 106. Up until 10 months ago he was living independently and it was only a year before that he had to give up golf. Such was his passion and skill he was made an honorary member of the Royal Blackheath and used to take my friend as a guest. He would show boat his putting skills on the putting green that sits outside the clubhouse with a putter that was probably as old as he was.
He was a character and a half, born an orphan and deposited through a window at the orphan hospital, he was lucky enough to be adopted by a wealthy couple and given a good education and was commissioned into the army, serving in North Africa. It was recently discovered that he was the oldest surviving orphan when the hospital had a royal visit and he was invited to meet the Queen. He told her with a wink, 'I met your father when I was here as a small boy', to which she replied, 'I don't here that very often these days'. They had a good chat apparently.

We raised a glass to Ted the other night to celebrate the passing of one of life's great characters.

My twat-arse hound has injured her leg again so is on anti-inflammatory pills. At first I could tempt her to swallow them with a bit of cheese, but she soon got wise, spat both the cheese and pill out, ate the cheese then walked off leaving the pill on the floor. I then reverted to the old-fashioned, 'Open dog's mouth, poke pill down throat, hold jaws closed and stroke the throat 'til pill is swallowed' technique. Only she got wise to this and somehow managed to put her tongue in a position where she could block her gullet then, with a quick convulse, spit out the pill. Tried crushing it in last night's dinner only to find it untouched this morning.
We're now at the stage where as soon as she hears the bottle being picked up and lid taken off she runs and hides.
Clever mutt.

Our old dog did the same. The only way I could fool here was to put it in milk chocolate as that got swallowed and not even chewed. Before anyone says anything, one piece of dairy Milk wont harm them and was certainly better than her not having the choccie!

Thing are a bit tight this month after paying for my operation (refund pending ) and, well let's just call it making a nice gesture and leave it at that.

Both my bike and Van have since broken down.
I've stumped up €156 for an alternator for the van and offered a mate €20 to fit it to which he replied "I'll do it for free"

I've decided the best course of action for the 690 is to helicoil the damaged thread, fill the bike with oil and see how bad it sounds. Thread kit is 'only' €16 but the oil is €70 (5 litres). I took the plunge yesterday and ordered it, as I head to the Amazon check out it says "Do you want to use your €80 Amazon Voucher towards this purchase". Well yeah, being as I had no idea I had an Amazon Voucher !

If you want to find out if the engine is buggered could you not just use cheap oil the first time? If it's ok then it might flush out some of the crap, if not you've not wasted that much cash.

Cheapo oil ain't gonna be a problem for 5 mins, or even 500 mins, running to see if it leaks.

Back when I had a Suzuki Swift that would burn all of it's oil once every 2000 miles I bought stuff from Wilkos which was £12 for 5 litres IIRC.
