£757 for an 890 worth £9k, that's with MCN. Then it goes from £1200 upwards. And also, that's garaged with a serious chain, datatag, disc lock etc. MCN quote £1300 if kept on a driveway.
Salty.

Rang my insurance company this morning to enquiry about changing to the Street Triple above. Any guesses? £50 extra? £100 extra? Not even close. They wanted an additional £610. So, that would make it almost £1100 a year.

Insurance companies are taking the piss out of me.

Guess I'll be riding the Trident until I'm either 60, or live in the arse end of nowhere with no crime. It really is like being 18 again.
Not just you, but insurance costs on bikes, even on insurance generally.

I can't even get TPFT where I live in London because I don't have a brick-built garage - an impossibility on a Victorian terrace street. The bike's off-road, but I couldn't even get it if I installed a Sold Secure steel bike garage for it. And people still wonder why I'm riding a 13 year old bike.

The insurance company wants me to ring to discuss my renewal... which sounds ominous.

My first insurance was also about £800, >20 years ago :D

When I got my Speed Triple, my fist "big" bike, I had 2 years NCB and it was still £750.

I bought a brand new R6 when I was 21, that cost me £800 a year, but yeah that was 23 years ago.

I'm financially inept! Been in loads of debt in the past and struggled to get out of it. I ain't going there again and now only pay cash for things or I go without!

In the past, to counter debt, I've run economical shitters for years on my commute. I could justify a certain indulgence, as my season ticket to get into work is crazy money, so spending a few grand on a bit better bike from time to time saved my sanity. That said, life is short and best lived well, so enjoy things you can afford, but bearing in mind, financially speaking, these are very uncertain times...

I always paid just under £200 for all my GSXRs.
Just entered my UK address into a bike insurance finder site and they all come back around £330 for a brand new one.

I remember us riders in N.Ireland used to be envious of the low cost of insuring in the rest of the UK. Seems the other way around now.

This year fully comp with breakdown cover £156.

Quite. My mate from home lived just outside Lisburn, his postcode was the same as Poleglass etc and he insured his SV650 for the first time after passing his test for £350 fully comp. Parked outside on the road. He is the same age as me. Go figure.

Why is it a ripoff? That's taking ripoff to mean excessive charging for no reason other than it can be got away with.

Well, 1 year NCB, not that it counts for anything at the moment. Anyway, another summer to enjoy the Trident.

On bank loans I got 2. something but it was low anyway. That was from Tesco.

On financing stuff I had the cash to buy the bike outright but figured that whilst I'll pay a bit extra to use a loan it would allow me to keep the cash for emergencies and I could always sell the bike. Which at the moment I should do fairly well on. I paid £8k new for the GSX and saw a Pre Reg'd 2020 like mine last week at £8.9k and lots of 2nd handers in dealers for over £8k so worst case I wouldn't lose much. Plus the cash presently is saving me a fair bit in interest on my off set mortgage which seems a better deal.

Saying that I have a mortgage and my bike loan and that's it which doesn't seem bad compared to a lot of people.
