Biking in the next 20 years
Every group of bikers I see stopped with their lids off are blokes who'll never see 50 again. I see very few youngsters. Any of you lot see a different trend in your area? When we all shuffle off or pack it in will that be bikes finished?

There seems to be a lot of youngsters round this way on 125’s so there’s hope yet.

More 125 kids here in east Lothian than there was say 10 years ago. Quite a few folk in there 30's and a hell of a lot 50+. 5 in my street alone, its like a scene from Wild Hogs at the weekends

Sounds better that I thought. Which is cool.

Re: Biking in the next 20 years
I get to see many in their mid 50's coming back to bikes and wanting licenses they should have got when they were 19-20 ..... i see more youngsters than oldies though
With the current license routes a lot run on CBT and L plates on 125's till they get to 19 and go for A2 then 21 for an A , yet some wait till 24 to go for Direct Access and a full A license. Lots of hoops to jump through that many of us didnt have to as we sat a test at 17-18 and jumped on the biggest bike we could afford

Loafs of kids here on bikes. And girls. I suppose it's summat that you can do all year-round, rather than a summer hobby.

Re: Biking in the next 20 years
If they want to get about, 2 wheels will be the way with increasing traffic. The British weather doesn't really promote biking to youngsters but I reckon bikes will do OK. Lots of 16/17s have small bike's around here but then get a car for various reasons.
Having both is best.

It might depend how cars change, EVs might make cars expensive and awkward compared to bikes that you can wheel down to your kitchen window and charge with a 3 pin plug.

Few kids round these parts on 50s and 125s, but they usually end up driving some badly mapped VAG product on R plates. Partly because it's only one test, and partly because red diesel is cheap and plentiful.

Re: Biking in the next 20 years
The new licence stuff puts people off. My daughter was interested but the sheer time and effort needed to get a big bike licence meant she said "Sod that!".

As it was designed to do. The industry couldn't be less interested in tackling bike safety, so the UK jumped at the EU's licence directive to make it as awkward as possible to get on a bike.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 12:33 pm The new licence stuff puts people off. Re: Biking in the next 20 years
With the push to EV’s and eventually autonomous vehicles bikes won’t be catered for. They’ll be relegated to a leisure pursuit for those with money pretty much like horses are these days
