Re: Op Banham
Could be good.
In the Royal Corps of Transport (which didn't exist in 1942) motorcyclists were referred to as Don Rs. We didn't do much 'despatching' except during periods of radio silence but did a lot of convoy control. It can be great fun shepherding a section of 8 vehicles from one location to another.VLHM wrote:Having previous knowledge of Motorcycles he was trained as a dispatch rider, which was known as Don Ts .

Re: Op Banham
Back in 'Part One' days, I was heading off to do some tests in another town but, a rare event for me, I was really early, so I stopped in a lay-by to kill time.Yambo wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 1:04 pm Could be good.

A minute or two later, an army bike pulled in and stopped. He waited, continuously checking his mirrors. I had had an inkling, so strolled back and asked whether he was waiting for a convoy of trucks?
Yes
His face dropped when I told him that they left the main road at the junction about two miles before the lay-by.
He departed, briskly. Language almost as loud as the bike.
Even bland can be a type of character
