I have a tree outside my house that was, it seemed always full of bees. Since the wild fires last July and August the tree, although unaffected by the fires, has had no bees in or around it.

This morning though, they're back. Yay!

Nowhere near the numbers previously but I suspect that will change fairly quickly. It's good to see them. I can usually here them as well but there's not the numbers yet for that.

Ran home and got it all in the Duster.
Just as I was leaving, a van pulled up to get the wood :obscene-birdiedoublered:

About 40 bits all about 6' long.
Mostly good heavy timber. Will be great for winter nights sat outside :)

Took the recycling there just now and a load of pallets.

Some went in OK

Presumably fire wood. The other weekend we took wood away with us for the fire pit as a few were coming so drinking into the small hours we wanted some heat. I had a job before we left taking down an old fence so chopped that up and took it with us. What a shit idea  Years of various paints soaked into the wood and you could see the black smoke and general reek coming from it. Sod that shit so i ended up paying the site a tenner for a barrow of wood

Yeah. We often have a fire after the BBQ when the evenings cool down a bit. Also installing some curtains on the pergola so we can have an enclosed area outside. The missus wanted a wood burner in the house for the cooler winter nights, but would be too much.
We have a wood burner ready built outside, so we'll use that instead :)

Be careful about burning pallet wood. Saw something recently that some Asian pallets are made with wood treated with something very nasty that has been banned in the EU/UK for years. Burning the wood releases this nasty and does anyone nearby no good at all.

Don't know about pallets, but pressure-treated exterior timber such as decking shouldn't be burnt as the preservatives used are supposed to include lovely chemicals such as arsenic.

Not true, see Mr LB's post below.

At least, not for recent stuff:

Copper Chrome Arsenic (CCA) approval ceased in September 2006.

So the 1998 decking that I dismantled a couple of years ago, and the shed base taken apart last year, could both have included CCA.

I remember being taught as a Boy Scout that pallets aren't really for burnin' and deffo aren't for cooking on.

Try not to breath the fumes they said. I mean, that sounds like pretty sound advice for any fire, but still.

Back when I were a lad we wouldn't burn the pallets, we'd sell 'em to the Yuppies as trendy futons.

Kids these days, etc., etc.

Back when i was a lad we took newspaper out and started to pinch daffodils from folks gardens what we made up nice bunches wrapped in paper and sold them to people telling them it was for the church roof. One day we found a raffle ticket book and my sister had not long got a big new teddy what was still in its cellophane. We took that round the doors selling tickets allegedly for the church roof but you can win this teddy. I dont think ill be going to heaven.
