New Herald 500

Post by Ditchfinder »

So do we think this will sell?

Only thing that jumps out is servicing at 3,000 miles, but that can be every 2 years for me

I guess a lot will depend on the pricing - needs to be £1k cheaper than a Fantic Caballero I reckon

Oh dear nearly £7k :wtf:

Saw it at the NEC a couple of years back, the prototype didn't look terrible.

It's on their webshite at £7k.

I would lay a bet that the next generation of KTM Duke will undercut it and be a better bike. £7k must include at least £1.5k's worth of hipster tax

Some of these new bike brands using chinese parts look great in the metal - I saw one (can't recall the make/model) parked up outside the supermarche and it really stood out. But let's face it, this one is hardly groundbreaking design.

I'm not really into purchasing new bikes - longevity and spares access for these low-production jobbys with chinese parts would worry me as a consumer. I mean I've literally never heard of 'Herald' before today, let alone seen one. 7k would put me off - it's not -that- good or desirable that a s/h japanese bike wouldn't fit the bill a lot better.

A 650cc (aircooled) Mash is around £2500 cheaper.

Before they canned the 690 Duke you could buy them for less than that. Why anyone would have chosen the Herald/Fantic etc over the KTM I don't know. Better built, way more power, longer service intervals, Brembo's etc.

I wonder what every 3k servicing involves? If it's just an oil change, that's ok,but anything more suggests fragility to me and I'd be more than happy to let others tell me how they get on. It's a Zongshen engine, which I've heard of,but know nothing about.

Unless the rider is well over 6ft, the bike looks tiny

I guess they are playing on the 'british' element of the build to justify the price. I would be interested to know what you can knock them down to at the dealers.

£4995 + OTR should have been target price, they've tried to go premium for something that isn't. CCM's aren't much more or Dukati scranbleurghs...

It costs way too much, and the engine is the old Cagiva Husky 450 which wasn't known for it's reliability.

Looked OK until the £7000 price tag..

As above, at the right price it would sell... but at £7000 and an unknown quantity.... Mmmmmm.

Be interesting to see how it compares to next year's rumoured 450 liquid cooled Himalayan, if it ever appears.
