A2

Post by MrLongbeard »

Is it stated anywhere on the V5 that a bike is A2 license compliant, assuming it's an A2 bike direct from the factory and not one that's had a restrictor fitted?

Mine doesn't*, gives cc and power/weight ratio but nothing else useful that I can see. Says Category L3 but I have no idea what that means.

*assuming A2 means <500 cc and <50 bhp

I thought it was a separate declaration document of some sort?

S'what I'm looking to find out.
The bike wife is interested in is 650cc but is available from the factory as a full fat 60hp or a restricted A2 47hp, so want to avoid buying the A2 version accidently or having one sold to us as full power.

Simple enough :) So the A categories refer to licences, and the L categories refer to the vehicles themselves.

From the UK gov.uk website:

category L1 vehicle Two-wheeled moped with a maximum speed up to 45km/h, internal combustion engine up to 50cc or electric motor up to 4kW maximum continuous rated power
category L3 vehicle Solo motorcycle with an internal combustion engine over 50cc and/or a maximum speed over 45km/h
category L4 vehicle Motorcycle and sidecar with an internal combustion engine over 50cc and/or a maximum speed over 45km/h

More than you want to read :)
