Not sure they all had guns 'n' ammo at home, nor XXL camo pants, technical vests and a penchant for knocking one out reading Shooter Monthly...unlike Billy-Bob from Shitville, Texas.
As an aside, I worked with a Norwegian bloke once. He did his national service and once it was done was given a rifle, ammo and uniform and told to hang onto them in case Norwsy was ever invaded. He said it was still up.in his mum'sloft at home.

Switzerland is similar. Lots of guns, very little problems. The USA has a massive problem, guns make it worse but banning them won't solve it.gremlin wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 8:29 pm Not sure they all had guns 'n' ammo at home, nor XXL camo pants, technical vests and a penchant for knocking one out reading Shooter Monthly...unlike Billy-Bob from Shitville, Texas.

For Billy-Bob read Breivik.gremlin wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 8:29 pm Not sure they all had guns 'n' ammo at home, nor XXL camo pants, technical vests and a penchant for knocking one out reading Shooter Monthly...unlike Billy-Bob from Shitville, Texas.

And the Swiss have one of the highest gun suicide rates apparently. Something to do with all those guns no doubt.

No one country has the monopoly on murderous fruitcakes unfortunately, but the USofA takes the gold among 'developed countries'. The link to the Bloomberg article is quite shocking when you look at the 'Gun violence deaths per 100k people' graphic:slowsider wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 10:07 pmFor Billy-Bob read Breivik.gremlin wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 8:29 pm Not sure they all had guns 'n' ammo at home, nor XXL camo pants, technical vests and a penchant for knocking one out reading Shooter Monthly...unlike Billy-Bob from Shitville, Texas.

3.964 per 100k, with Cyprus a distant 2nd with a measly 0.628.*
The problem America has with guns clearly isn't down to guns alone, but the American obsession with them. Think to any Hollywood blockbuster film and you can guarantee there's a shootout somewhere along the line where the hero blasts his way out of a situation, leaving dead bodies and a witty quip behind him. Problem solved, no devastation afterwards, no remorse, no mourning families, no lifelong disabilities from gunshot wounds. Grow up watching that day in, day out and then having a gun readily to hand when you're not in good place is a recipe for tragedy.
I recall seeing an documentary years ago, with a very weary-looking American policeman outside a house that was the scene of a domestic firearms murder. His words I still remember now: 'The difference between attending a domestic argument and a domestic murder is usually the presence of a gun in the house'
*Granted they're all laggards compared to El Salvador with 36.8 per 100k.

Words fail me....Americans are one of the most stressed out in the world. The current stress level experienced by Americans is 20 percentage points higher than the global average.

I know. Imagine leaving the house and not making sure your two youngest weren't packing heat. Shoddy parenting.

Re: In todays news...
I reckon if they banned guns and somehow got them off all the bad guys, then the stabbings would increase like here.

Yebbut all them stabbers are just the people who couldn't find a gun. Twice as many as the UK, even when you consider they had the option to shoot someone instead!
