Tyre Prices and Shortages

Had the tyres changed on my Deauville today, whilst in Slovakia. Could have changed them in Spain before I left, but they have done just under 4000 kms since Ieaving. They were worn down to about 1.4 mm.

There seems to be a shortage of bike tyres here, as my mate spent two hours ringing various bike dealers and tyre shops. Finally found a pair of Metzler Roadtec 01's at a bike dealers, which were fitted these tyres this morning. Was told that there has been a huge demand for tyres lately, and much fewer available than usual.

Upshot was I paid €283 the pair, plus €50 fitting. A bit on the pricy side, but I actually wore the tyres out for a change.

That's, what, about £280? That would be OK in UK - I paid £357 a few months ago for Road 6s for the Tracer. Maybe Slovakia is normally quite a bit cheaper?
But tyres seem to be generally pricey at the moment.

I looked into Road 5 prices last week £355 fitted, 6s were a little more. Think Roadtec 01's were showing as over £300 for the tyres alone at FWR.

Tyre bloke said there is a shortage of tyres and manufacturers are prioritising car tyres over bikes. He also said he's finding it easier to find the premium more expensive tyres in the range over the budget ones for the same reason.

I paid £285 for Road 6 tyres,but with £30 cashback,so £255 in all. Road 5s are a bit cheaper.

That's good. Admittedly I didn't look around much cos I got a repair but FWR are currently £337 for the tyres alone for 120/70, 190/55

5's are £295 so only a tenner more than yours less the cash back. But then you add fitting and it's bloody expensive business.

Considering i can pick up part worn TTs for <£100 it's a no-brainer. That's for the ZX6 in a 180, not sure about 190s.

That's def something to consider. I only really ride April - Oct usually so sports tyres if they are that cheap might be a good option.

It's fine, could be grippier, but it's a touring tyre not a track tyre, tbh it's the first bike I've had on sports touring tyres I've had since the early 90s, and they feel as good as the sports tyres of the 90s.

I probably would, but I'm more bothered about dodging the pot holes and gravel than I am about grip.

You are right, trying to think back to the last tyre I had grip issues with....probably some Macadams on my Firestorm. Everything since have had varying levels of feel/confidence but no grip issues.

Hurst Tyres in Belfast. I think the cashback promo is finished,though.

I had an ST on a Multi when i bought it. It was ok and lasted well. The GT2 gave more feel and grip in my head and they are supposedly comparable to Road 5
