Depends on your interpretation. It's an event on road bikes on a closed road with a start and a finish.

It’s not a race no but there is prestige to being in the sub-4h lead group. Loads of guys in Newbury used to do it just for the chance of a 4h century.

Our pretty average Chaingang with 8 people does 24mph.

(Bikes, tyres etc etc aren't made out of thin air, old tyres, brake pads etc don't just evaporate and queues of cars behind cyclists create more pollution than cars moving freely. Lots of riders drive many miles to/from the event, just as they drive to/from the Surrey Hills from all over the place).

Granted i'm sure it is... but it's not like it's a shock.... Bank Holidays seem an inconvenience to many with closing of the shops and people need to stack up on 3 months worth of shopping for the weekend. Train/Rail closures are also inconvenient. But not only is this 1 part of 1 day, it's a lot of people raising a lot of money to help others out...
