Colour Change once " New Posts" have been read

Post by Treadeager »

As an old git I struggle a bit with all things new technology so I'm sure it's me........

When I'm browsing , I like to use the " New Posts " selection . So I select a thread and catch up . I use the " page back " function on the PC but all threads remain prefixed with a red symbol ( including the ones I have already read ) UNTIL I refresh the whole page . ( Then all the read threads are prefixed by a blue symbol ) and all other threads still to read remain red . It would be great if all read threads got the blue symbol automatically without the need to constantly refresh . Am I missing something ? Is there a better way ? TIA for any tips . Otherwise very happy .

Honest answer is that it's more down to what you're using to do it, by using 'back' you're stopping it doing a refresh so not enabling it to update colour.

Using the method you're using, I can't see any way we could make the back end better. It can only know so much I'm afraid.

I doubt you could do it on any operating system like that and get the results you want.

Have you seen it work on another forum?

On the TRC , Once you had read a thread , the thread title went from bold to normal font and the " down " arrow at the start disappeared .

( It's because us oldies can't remember what we have and haven't read innit ? Sorry to be a bovver........

Dynamically and without a refresh? Mmmm

As a workaround, could you use right key, 'open in new tab' all of the threads that you want to read?

S'what I do :)
Even bland can be a type of character

UKGSeR does basically that.
Same once you’ve posted. “Back” takes you straight back the main page/recent posts list and updates in one swipe.

Vbulletin

Edit - as an example, it took three swipes to go back past posting the above, past the text box, past the thread and then to the latest posts page.
And 4 from this edit.

I don't even understand what your 'swipe' thing is dude. It's a concept that's alien to me

Don't forget, just because I built a forum doesn't mean I know all about forums guys.

YEah using 'new posts' then Board index and new posts does it in 2 clicks, changes the colours.

Using new posts from 'quick links' does it in 1 click too.
