Re: I've convinced SWMBO to let me buy a bike!
It was an 1150. The fuelling was utter shite, it was slow, it was unreliable, it was no fun, it was unreliable, it was boring, it was unreliable, it sounded like a cat sharting in to a paper bag and it made me look and feel like a gullible loser. My missus chose her Scrambler over new windows. As we sit and freeze we'll at least have something nice to look at.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 8:21 am The most I ever spent on a bike was when I bought a brand new R6 when I was 21 in 2000. It was £6k.
Spending 10k on a frivolous toy is quite scary. I'd rather that than a new kitchen tho'

Re: I've convinced SWMBO to let me buy a bike!
I've been to the local BMW Emporium, the Peadotown branch of Alan Jefferies.
They have a black 1200GS with the right miles and spec, but a bit over budget. However as an approved used BMW they offer a two year warranty, two years breakdown, etc...
It was a bit dog in the flesh. In fact any of the bikes in there over a couple of years old look like dogs. If the build quality on modern BMW's really that bad?

Yep, it's part of the character... they look like shit so you can pretend you've ridden them round the world instead of to starbucks.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 1:59 pm I've been to the local BMW Emporium, the Peadotown branch of Alan Jefferies.

Re: I've convinced SWMBO to let me buy a bike!
I've had a few R series and the newer they got, the worse the finish seemed to hold up. I think they moved to water based paints or summat? I also had two F800s and the older one was dreadful but the newer one was much better and I was quite impressed. Then I found out it was ACF50 doing its job. So therein lies your answer!KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 1:59 pm I've been to the local BMW Emporium, the Peadotown branch of Alan Jefferies.

Re: I've convinced SWMBO to let me buy a bike!
Well I've spoken to the shop about the white bike I looked at yesterday. They've found the service book and it's got 4 BMW stamps and 3 Indy stamps, he's whatsapping them over along with the VIN so I can decode it on line and see if it's got Gear Assist Pro.

Hmmm, Gear Assist Pro, brilliant!
Lowering, not so good. I knew it had the low seat fitted, but it seems it's a low chassis bike too.

Re: I've convinced SWMBO to let me buy a bike!
Unless it's very easily remedied I'm be put off by the lowering.
I think there are plenty of GSs on the used market.
How about an Adventure model?

On the older bikes lowering was different shocks. On the newer bikes with ESA I don't know if it's all done by the fancy electronic suspension. I'm trying to find out.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 2:57 pm Unless it's very easily remedied I'm be put off by the lowering.

Re: I've convinced SWMBO to let me buy a bike!
The ESA on my 2009 1200RT doesn't lower the bike. Newer bikes might be different but I don't recall reading anything on the FB group.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Mon May 09, 2022 3:32 pmOn the older bikes lowering was different shocks.
