I finally got round to setting up the sag on the bike for my weight. To be fair the bike has felt fine when out but as it’s something I always do then it makes sense to do it. I have one of those Motool slacker tools which allows you to do the job yourself or makes it easier when you have someone to hold the bike upright if you don’t want to use the wheel chock, I find doing it with someone holding the bike upright you get more accurate results.

The manual states for the road that there should be from unladen to rider sag of 40 +-2mm on the front and 35 +-2mm on the rear. I checked the standard settings and it was set to zero preload. There was too much sag on the front so I put 3 turns of preload in and I was getting 40mm so left that as is. The rear was perfect at 37mm with zero preload.

I then set it up for track so that when the time comes I can quickly adjust it and I’ll be ready to do. The manual doesn’t have recommendations for track but online I found through BMW technicians that 35 +-2mm on the front and 30mm +-2mm is recommended.

With a further 3 turns of preload on the front and 12 turns of preload on the rear I managed to get 36mm front and 30mm on the rear. This gives me a good basis to work with and if I feel it’s too much then I can back it off slightly when the time comes.

As for the damping settings I will worry about that another time as you can only adjust them in race mode 1,2 and 3. In all the other settings it’s fully electronic, in race mode 1,2 and 3 it’s in theory still electronically controlled but you can manually adjust it to a fixed setting, I’ll have a play with that nearer the time or at least see how it feels on the road when I have it in those modes, factory setting is middle of the road for rebound and compression front and rear but the front is one adjustment for both, they do not work independently of each other.

I was wanting a set of tank grips and tank pad for the usual reasons, my usual go to for all my road and race bikes is Stompgrip but after fitting a set of Eazi-Grip Pro’s to the wife’s bike last year I decided that was what I was wanting. What I couldn’t decide on was whether to get the Pro or Evo version.

After seeing some Gen 4’s with both fitted I’ve decided on the Evo version which will suit my needs the best and I like the way they look. I’ll fit them at some point this weekend.

The wife and I finally managed to get out for a decent ride today, it’s been a while. The wife hasn’t been on the back of a bike since early last season so it’s been a long time coming, her first experience of the Gen 4.

Gaga and Grandad popped through and we headed out, nothing major, 129 miles of cracking roads, busy as usual but plenty bits where we could have some fun.

The bike is phenomenal, the more time I spend on it the more I love it. Nothing to complain about so far anyway.

Bit of pampering Sunday for the bike. Degreased the chain then lubricated as usual. I removed the sprocket cover to give the front sprocket area a degrease as well, it wasn’t that bad.





Bike now fitted with the Eazi-Grip Evo tank grips and pad.

GPS lap trigger and 2D data logger finally arrived. I’ll fit this at some point over the next few days, just need to book a track day now.

That’s the BMW M gps lap trigger and 2D data logger fitted now. Very easy to fit. I had to remove the USB charge socket as the power supply connector is needed for this set up.










The GPS mouse is secured to the side under the pillion seat when not in use, and you can clearly see where it goes when in use. I’ve got some more Velcro coming to secure the diagnostic connector to the bottom of the storage compartment so that doesn’t move around, The mouse uses alfa lok which is ridiculously strong, that’s what’s on the side when it’s stowed away. I will use normal hook and loop Velcro for the diagnostic connector. I also use Velcro cable ties which are fantastic.

Note two pics above the holder for the USB connector to the left as you look at it, this has a memory stick attached for the data logger.










Not long until I can book a track day, only thing left to get which the wife says I have to is GB racing covers, which I have ordered, I also wanted a quick release fuel cap so purchased the Alpha Racing fuel cap.

That’s the diagnostic connector secured with Velcro so it doesn’t move around, looking much neater now, neat enough that I’m happy.
