Bollocking

Post by wull »

On the way home from the barbers tonight I seen a stranded 125 with L plates on the other side of the road so did my usual and went back to offer a helping hand and see if I could fix whatever was wrong. As I appeared he said he had managed to sort the problem, the chain had fell off :?

Fuck me this thing was slack, slacker than the wife’s undercarriage! Never in my life, the adjustment on the swingarm was right to the front and this chain had seen better days, absolutely hinging! The little sticker on the swingarm clearly stating 25mm of chain slack, fuck knows what this was. I showed him how to do it and told him how to replace the chain as I recommended he replaced the chain and sprockets asap. Hopefully he takes note and listens to the bollocking that I gave him.

I sill remember my first-ever ride on my new-to-me BSA C12. The chain came off! Bastard dealer sold me a bike with a knackered chain and fubared sprockets, and on THAT particular POS model the rear sprocket was built into the rear wheel.

Bloke took a bike to my brothers shop, complaining of clutch slip.

Clutch was fine, just no teeth on the front and rear sprokets

I try it with my teen local MTBers... i'm not convinced they listen much. It's great to try, but not all lessons go in.

I tried to traffic light GP a ZXR750 and another bike, can't remember what now. But I was on a TZR125!! Bugger knows what I was thinking but I was having them regardless. This was on Hanger Lane roundabout so 4 lanes I think and very busy as rush hour.

So I dial in lots of revs, hunch down and laun....WTF! I get a screaming engine and no drive whatsoever as the chain jumps ship. I'm then in the outside of lane 2 with cars, vans and trucks passing either side as I try and make myself as small as possible. Bloody terrifying.

The chain was in a right state, it was my first bike and I never adjusted it till then.

We get it a lot with kids turning up for their renewals after 2 years of shit gear changing, dumping clutches, no adjustment or chain lube ;)

I was shocked by the state of the chains on 80% of the bikes at Finchingfield. Most were bone dry and a few had rust/corrosion. One had an oiler where the outside of the chain was lubed but the inside was rusty and orange!

Finchingfield. Preserve of the Sunny Day riders.

Based entirely on the fact that I lived in a cottage, overlooking the pond and Fox Pub, for a couple of years.

Beautiful village spoiled by all the noisy bastard motorbikes all summer!

I tend to ride through or around it rather than stop but been twice this year all ready.

We were interested in a house there but even as a biker, I couldn't stand how busy it gets. Interestingly we have friends that have a house overlooking the green at Gt Bentley and doesn't bother them....
