Mundane Topic: Recommend me a strimmer that actually works!

Dull topic I realise for those on they site more used to rear wheel steering 192 BHP around Cobham roundabout but ...

I hate strimmers - they start out life as simple pieces of kit - until you have to replace the spool at the bottom. Then they never work - they never automatically feed the right amount of nylon thread , or it breaks, or it jams, or one strand or the other disappears. TBH, they are nearly as bad as tin openers ( which rare work these days)

All I want is a simple one - for a small grassed area , than doesn't f*** up very 3 metres. Anyone ever had any success?
And I have taken two back to B&Q because they were really hopeless ...

In the best tradition of RWYH, I have a Ryobi 'One' rechargeable.

It's retrofitted with thicker line (because my neighbour gave me spool of it), so it's sounding a bit more aggressive now

I've a shitty old electric Black &Decker which refuses to die and does my job.

Happy with my Stihl battery job. Dunno which model 57? but it takes the 18v battery from my chainsaw so I saved money by buying a bare one. It's not the most aggressive thing ie only has nylon line, no brush cutter but better than their little fixed battery one. I like it. Quite light and runs quite a long time. I'd prefer it to have a shoulder strap though.

I have a mains powered one, possibly Ryobi...it's the right colour...but cable is a pain so it never makes it out of the shed.

Used to have a petrol one with brush cutter. It was brutal but engines are even more of a pain than cable.

I had a McCullough one that was like that- I bought a Hyundai one approx 18 months ago, I'm on my third reel of line, and touch wood, it's been tip-top so far in every way, definitely qualifies as a pleasing purchase for me

BTW, my striker is a 20 yr plus electric B&D so maybe anything is better! A new one beckons but ideally not a huge outlay

My Worx one has been fine too - never any issues with spool feed and around 20 mins run time

I've got one too.

Only used it a couple of times, but so far so good.
The 4ah battery lasts about an hour of near constant use.
