Giro d'Italia.... let the quest for the Pink jersey begin
Stage 1, potentially has Matheiu VanDerPoel for a pink today... got to be in with a chance.
Overall it's hard to see Carapaz not winning this one though. Unless you think otherwise ?
Budapest just starting for Stage1.

I was interested to see how Tom Pidcock go....
......but I'm REALLY interested to see how he goes on the UCI MTB XC tour this month as he's pulled out of the Giro.

Yates has unfinished business but Carapaz has to be a strong favourite. Be nice to see Hugh Carthy amongst the Podium places. Miguel Angel Lopez might be a dark (ish) horse too.

Wilco Kellderman ? Got to be a shout i think....I like how Carthy rides but sometimes i think he blows himself up going for it instead of sitting on wheels.

I think Pelle Bilbao would be my pick before Kellderman.
Carthy is a hero just for the faces he can pull

Re: Giro d'Italia.... let the quest for the Pink jersey begin
As a kid, when I was into football, I always used to get baffled how people on the beaters trailer out shooting would rabbit on about players and teams and tactics and stuff like they knew the ins and outs of all their lives.
Now I’m older- I’m increasingly aware I’m wired up differently because I still don’t get it about anything I’m into
I think my memory just isn’t good enough.
So as usual I’ll probably watch a few dribs and drabs on TV but I don’t have a fucking clue who’s in form, who suits the course and who’s gonna win any given stage
I find it much easier to follow gravel where there’s only about 10 characters to know about

Re: Giro d'Italia.... let the quest for the Pink jersey begin
That's the best part about pro-cycling though, the intricacies of the bunch, the form of the riders, the team they've built around them for the event, or not.
Seeing a team powering the front to either close or split a group, just working for the chance for 1 man at the end... it's awesome.
In the same way, seeing a team putting it all on the line in a bunch sprint, it's just as epic to me.
Today i'll be watching the XC too, which is just man vs man. Or in our case as British fans, Pidcock vs them all. If it's not Pidcock then most i bet will want Nino to be winning it instead.
the ladies is usually a better watch in some ways. Seeing if Evie Richards has recovered from illness and back on form.

Re: Giro d'Italia.... let the quest for the Pink jersey begin
I know- I just don’t know anything about any of them no matter how much I watch
I’ll get into it for that hour or whatever and then literally nothing will stick for next time
I’m used to it now but I would literally have to set about writing a book or something to get the amount of info most normal people pick up in passing to stick.

This pace is mental, and yet Pidcock looks like he's on a training ride!weeksy wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 11:46 amWell, today...

What happened??? He went from 2nd to 17th and then pulled it back but clearly not for the win.
VdP with an epic epic finish! First day, pink.

Is it on ITV?
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"

Re: Giro d'Italia.... let the quest for the Pink jersey begin
IT's all a bit topsy turvy at the moment
https://www.giroditalia.it/en/classifiche/
Yates, Bilbao and Kelderman are the highest placed GC contenders but Carapaz isn't far off as is Landa. Almieda and Bardet still mixing it after the big day up Etna.
Just the 1 hill for today.
