It's actually a decent start to a topic, but because you've only posted a link, very few will bother reading it

I think I'd be tempted to keep quiet.

Do the Five-O really have the resources to follow it up if the Brother can prove he was out of the country?

I was wondering the same.

Depends how much time and motivation the copper has I suppose. Would he make the connection from the brother to the OP (assuming brother hasn't said anything?) and even if he did how would the copper prove anything?

Someone lied to the police. They won't like that.

A few years ago there was a guy done for speeding.

He'd made a habit of going past a particular front-facing camera, giving it the finger.

Police identified the bike, found how many were owned in the area, then checked the owners and identified the particular rider by his gear.

Doing over 60 in a 30 on false plates coz he couldn't be bothered to tax & insure his bike, thus getting his brother in the shit.....

If plod thought it was a simple cloned plate then they probably wouldn't bother looking any further but the plate matches the bike and the area so I think they will drag the soldier in assuming he lent his bike to someone else, that's going to get really messy. Either soldier drops his brother in it or tries to prove it wasn't his bike, I wonder if he has a tracker fitted?

There's a possibility that he might have gone past some police ANPR cameras (if any are rear facing). If so, they might be able to get general direction of travel before and after the stop. That, in conjunction with determining how many of that type of bike in the area. And going through that list would very quickly throw up the brother.

They COULD do lots of things. I guess the question is would they?

There's fuck all trafpol anymore as they've all been replaced by cameras, do vanilla police go that deep into stuff, do the remaining trafpol have the time, or do they concentrate on the easier stuff?

I watch lots of the Police stuff they show on C5, the scrotes breaking the law get fines smaller than my weekly beer bill and half the cases get chucked out by the CPS.

Be interesting to hear what a proper coppers opinion is without any politics.

IME coppers (and the CPS) take a REALLY dim view of 'perverting the course of justice'. If they make the connection (2 brothers, identical bikes) they are going to make an example of someone. And it won't be the soldier.

Well quite.

Silly speeds on the road might be something we've all done...but changing plates to hide the fact you don't have tax, insurance etc., then lying to the police about who you are to hide that crime?

Take a step back and read it again.

No need for me to read anything again. I'll readily admit in my teens and twenties I was a loose cannon and hung around with plenty of those with a similar mindset. I did grow up eventually, many of my cohorts didn't.

I'd be the last person in the world to cast stones at anyone for almost anything outside of murder.

Maybe it’s me but it seems like different times now. I rode around on my mighty GT185 before I passed my test, therefore unlicensed and uninsured. That was in the 80s. I would have a fit if my kids did it.

Even then I wouldn’t have effectively dropped my brother in the shit.
