I didn't hang around and took another contract in the end but when the original proposition that you need to pay the Employers NI as well as employee NI came along (The year is got postponed) My client conceded that if they were defining the relationship as that of and Employer / employee, they should carry the Employers NI Burden by increasing the base rate to cater for the 13.9%.v8-powered wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 11:05 amHarsh lol. Also, they conceded that AWR would Apply. so the rate had to be equal to the gross value best paid employee in the same role including the value of his annual leave, Pension, Car Allowance, BUPA etc etc etc..

Times are indeed hard.
Edit: just checked this month's vs. last month's payslip. Bit of a shit in terms of the NI rise, but yeah, I'm with Weeksy. If you see a big increase, you must be earning it, so be grateful for that problem.
In fairness, the east wing ballroom is the smaller of the three.......

If this rise was going to lead to nurses getting paid 15% more 'people' probably wouldn't mind.
When it's paired with critical underfunding of the NHS, people get the hump !
I have to say this doesn't affect me twice. Firstly as I'm on a French contract so don't pay NI, secondly my wages are agreed at a "take home" rate so increases like this pas me by !
If there was a directly associated account and the public could see where/how exactly it's spent, i think that would make people a lot happier.
But that's an unrealistic expectation i think
As an aside I overheard a wealthy guest a few years ago " I wouldn't mind paying a bit more tax if I had more say about what it was spent on "

I think that's the general idea - that the rise is ringfenced.weeksy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 9:39 am

I think you’re probably correct to be. In order to convince everyone, they’ve even mandated that a message be put on to everyone’s payslips from this month.

I suspect that if you ringfence some money but not all of it you might as well not have bothered and its just done for PR reasons.
Annual sweets budget of a tenner, five of its from Bob and ringfenced to go on sweets for everyone.
Five comes from everyone else, Katy controls the and spending spraffs it on weapons.
Now there's only a fiver for the sweets, which fiver was used? It's all just interchangable numbers.

I'm pretty sure security of employment has been Brexited away. Statutory redundancy payments have been stripped back to almost zero since we left the EU.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 10:35 pmYes, tax fiddling bastards. Just as well when there's many tens of billions which went to cronies to be paid for. That's the Brexit I voted for.

I might be wrong but I've not heard of 800 French P&O workers being sacked so was it just British workers who were replaced?

Neither French contract or Netherlands contract crews were sacked according to shipping mag Sea Breezes. Just the UK then. (I think their contracts were actually issued in Jersey ).demographic wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 9:18 pmSecurity of employment seems to have taken a real hit from P&O recently.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 8:30 pmI'm pretty sure security of employment has been Brexited away. Well, obviously it's their fault. If they didn't manage to operate ferries at competitive prices while paying crew properly, P&O could raise prices and wouldn't need cheap crews (or could trouser more profit). Damn French, undercutting fine British, Dubai owned businesses by running their businesses properly.demographic wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 8:31 amIs there some new and convoluted way we can blame The French for this?Count Steer wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 10:03 pm Neither French contract or Netherlands contract crews were sacked according to shipping mag Sea Breezes. Frankly I'm shocked that any true Brit wants to cross The Channel in the first place, there's perfectly good places here to have a holiday. Just what exactly is wrong with a week in a boarding house in Margate? Fine food, sunshine, lovely beaches.
Oops. I appear to have caught the new variant of Mailid19.

Re: NI increases kick in this month.. the masses are in uproar.
I looked at a French paper on why French workers weren't sacked and it said it was harder to do it in France but they then printed rules which didn't look much different, I'm not sure why they needed to mention the rule about sex with an unknown person on a business trip.
Maybe it is as simple as the UK workers were being paid significantly more and nobody wants to admit it.
