IIRC didn't they have four wheels everywhere else, but in the UK, due to license restrictions they chopped a wheel off?

They weren't very big at the time but now they look absolutely tiny. The thing that always creases me up is how the steering wheel hinges away with the door so you can get in.

I remember seeing ones with two back wheels close together, back in the good old days, but most in the U.K. were three wheelers.

Three wheeled cars had a market, in blokes who only had a bike licence and did not want to sit a driving test. I know it doesn’t sound logical nowadays.

The four wheeled Isetta was only a few quid cheaper than an Austin A35 van, because of 25% purchase tax on private cars. The van was much better value.

I think some were bought by parents so their kids could drive at 16 (to stop them getting dangerous 2 wheelers!). IIRC you could drive them (and bikes with a sidecar) on L plates without engine size restrictions...but I could be wrong, it's all a bit hazy

I thought ( and had it confirmed by local plod) that you could drive on a provisional if they had no reverse...so I disconnected the reversing points ( 2 stroke...could be started forward or backwards). However, it was weight that restricted it.

Ah yes. The reverse gear thing. I remember shoving my mates Isetta in/out of parking spaces.

I don't suppose they'd pass any sort of collision test now - probably not even bike safety requirements.

I don't like the bike, but I like the way the company is heading. if everyone aligne their batteries to be interchangeable, things would move on quicker. Of course, that's never going to happen, but fair play to them for embracing the concept.

Got a crap phone signal so their site is taking forever to load so...what's the final drive? Almost look like a little shaftie?
It's pretty retro but would make a good city/holiday hire bike.
